If you don't want to know anything about the next Star Trek film, stop reading this now. Now that the warning is out of the way...AICN is saying they have a "confirmed" casting call sheet from JJ Abrams' production company, Bad Robot, for STAR TREK XI. We know of Zachary Quinto playing a "young" Spock and Nimoy playing the old spock in the next film which hits theaters December 2008. Also confirmed at Comic Con 2007 is that Shatner will be playing an old Kirk while they are still looking for a young Kirk in his 20s.

Apparently, it goes beyond that..Here's what AICN has said about further casting. They also say it's confirmed.

[JAMES KIRK] 23-29 Handsome, cocky self assured and earnest. Great physical condition. 6 ft or less

[LEONARD(BONES)MCOY] -28-32 Medic on the Enterprise. Smart, clever and a bit danger-loving. Dark hair, blue eyes.

[UHURA] 25ish -African American. Brilliant, beautiful, heroic and FUN!, Uhura is almost tom-boyish - as if she grew up in a houseful of brothers.

[SULU] 25-32 -Asian American male (preferably Japanese). Helmsman on the Enterprise. Extremely fit, capable and dedicated. A bit of a wildcat

[MONTGOMERY(SCOTTY) SCOTT] -28-32 a brilliant ship's engineer. Must be able to do a flawless Scottish accent!

Take anyone for Scotty and have Billy Connolly do voice overs.

LOL I know I'll get sacked for saying this, but...How about Mike Myers (of Austin Powers & Wayne's World) as Scotty?! LOL j/k folks!
I'm pretty sure Paramount will find suitable actors to portray these legendary ST characters in their youth.

What about James McAvoy for Scotty? Makes sense to me. Sinise should definitely be Bones. Looking forward to this.

I'm glad both Nimoy and Shatner will be reprising their roles for this film. I hope the McCoy and Spock characters are older than Kirk, but if JJ's rebooting the franchise I guess I can accept it if they whole group is the same age. I wasn't crazy about the idea of rebooting he series, but maybe it's what is needed. Nothing can replace the graet Trek memories I have from my younger days, and if JJ can open a new generation's eyes to the Star Trek universe that's great.

Checkov was a junior officer in TOS. I forget the actual episode, but in it Kirk and Spock are interviewing Checkov for promotion to bridge crew. In reality the powers that be wanted to attract a younger crowd to watch Star Trek. Due to the popularity of The Monkeys it was decided to introduce a mop haired younger crew member. Roddenbury supposedly decided to make Checkov a Russian after recieving a letter from a fan (who was Russian) complaining of American propoganda in that the show forgot to mention that it was the Soviet Union that first put a man into orbit. Anyway this is a long winded way to say that Checkov wouldn't even be in Starfleet yet as he would be to young.

I would like to see Gabby Union play Uhura. She fits the above description perfectly IMO.

"Preferably" Japanese?

Well, I guess it's all the same. They all look alike, don't they? Stupid roundeyes won't know the difference, so why bother trying to be specific?

I was pretty sure that the original Sulu was hinted at being Japanese or at least of Japanese ancestry. I had a DC comics Star Trek comic back form the 80s that hinted at this. I know that's probably not canon, but who knows.

"Well, I guess it's all the same. They all look alike, don't they? Stupid roundeyes won't know the difference, so why bother trying to be specific?"

I'm hoping that was sarcasm.

Anyway, I remain hesitant about this reimaging of the franchise. Sure, the last few next gen movies were pretty much screen feces, but do we automatically have to go back to square one with a series after it starts to underperform?

Oh, and I think you're refering to "The Trouble with Tribbles," Redshirt.
