In the May issue of CINESCAPE, both Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, creator and executive producer on THE X-FILES, talk about the upcoming X-FILES movie with a welcomed degree of certainty.
We ran a few of Carter's quotes here lately, and now bring him and Spotnitz, one of the driving forces aiding Carter in the franchise, to our news with more info.
First off, it seems Spotnitz's new movie deal with Dimension Films won't be effecting his work on the second FILES feature.
"I suppose it could, but I don't think it will," Spotnitz says. "I think I will be able to do both. I hope so. That's my intention, anyway."
Carter addressed the sometimes not so eager efforts of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who in the past have talked about their eagerness for the show to end. He revealed despite being relieved to leave their weekly TV duties (Duchovny left last year, Anderson will now that the show's ending) "Right now, [the film is] coming up on the slot machine a winner," in the eyes of his actors.
"I see the features as stand-alones," Carter told us. "But you never know there may be things in there for the long-term, hard-core fans that only they would know, and only they would see. That might be a really fun thing to do... One of the tricks of the movie was in creating a movie for X-FILES fans and others. I don't want to go backwards, I don't want to beat them over the head. The X-FILES fans knew very well who Mulder and Scully were, and their characters didn't need to be reintroduced to them. So we had to be clever about how we told a new audience about who they were."
