The "official Media Blasters Facebook page" has put out an update that indicates that in February 2011, we'll see Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit come to Blu-ray in the US. Moribito has had an awkward release journey in the US, as originally picked up by Geneon alongside Scholastic bringing out the translated novels. When Geneon imploded, the rights were kind of up in the air for awhile before Media Blasters got a hold of them. The actual release took longer and was staggered in style as you could get more, cheaper, if you bought Walmart versions. Numerous configurations of the release have come out over time as well which has lead to plenty of confusion. The new Blu-ray release is being listed as a "Part 1", so it's uncertain how much will be on it / how many parts it will run.

Plot SummaryShe carries the pain of eight souls. He carries the burden of one sacred spirit. At a time when the balance of nature still held the civilizations of mankind in thrall, a single drought could spell the end of a society and doom its inhabitants to piteous deaths. Prince Chagum has been imbued with the power to stave off the drought and bring new life to his empire. However, this is a suspicious time, and he is accused of possession by an evil spirit. Court advisors only see one solution. Chagum must be put to death by his own father's hand. His salvation is in the form of Balsa, a spear woman and mercenary from Kanbal, the kingdom across the mountains. Her skills are legendary, and although reluctant, she is held by a mysterious vow to save eight souls before she dies. Can she fend off an entire empire and make Chagum her eighth soul?

I most likely will double dip and buy the blu-ray if there are 2 parts and not 3 or four. It would be a welcome change from the walmart 8 disk stack pack.

I too have the walmart stackpack,  so I will consider the blu-ray release,

now MB has stated that they will no longer release singles, so a 2 volume set will be OK, but no more than that IMO

This series will probably not be true hi-definition.  Most likely an up conversion with standard definition re-mastered.  Now Evangelion 1.11 for bluray is truly hi-definition!

yea i am happy about Mb announcing box sets only-

mudduck- have you heard if Kanokon will have a complete language track yet. I havent heard any rumors about it only that it would be released around march of next year and that is it.

The show is getting a streaming version in high def, so it's got a very good chance of not being an upscale.

@ Calibur45

no official word on excactly when kanokon will be released, sometime in march I believe, I do believe it will be completly dubbed,  I have misplaced my volume 1, but I plan on spending all day tuesday, searching my storage shed, until I find it and the other several boxsets I am missing...

tryin to make a complete inventory list of all the anime I have, so far I am up to 215 complete R1 sets, ranging from single disc OVA sets, to about 40 discs in the ranma 1/2 series

Moribito does not appear to have a Blu-ray release in japan (or at least not one available at

It was made in 2007, so it may have HD master video that they didn't think they needed to put on Blu-ray (I doubt it though),

If it is truly HD and not just an upscale, I'll definitely double dip to buy the Blu-Ray.
