According to Sony, the classic Midway arcade game, Mortal Kombat II, will be made available on the PS3 in March for $4.99.

The game brings together the original game's roster of a dozen fighters and their respective finishing moves, and is updated with online multiplayer support.

Players will be able to fight classic bosses like Goro and Shang Tsung, though four armed Goro may be left out, replaced by a similar boss called Kintaro, as he was not in the arcade version.

No word on if or when Midway will bring the game to Xbox 360.

KJ's Take:  FATALITY!!!!!!!!!!!  Finally a good move, and a good price, by Sony.

Mortal Kombat 2 was probably one of my favorite games. This is very cool news. Now all I need is 600 bucks to buy a PS3.

Why not just unlock the Mortal Kombat II feature on Shaolin Monks for PS2? If you've already got that console it is a hell of a lot cheaper to spend $20 on the game than dishing out the $600 for a new console that has taken a lot of abuse from critics.

Hmm.... $605 for a PS3 with Mortal Kombat II, or just buy Shaolin Monks and unlock the full version on your PS2? Tough choice...

Sony needs to get its act together and work on "other key areas" before announcing something so utterly poinltess. How about improving your PS3 library and working on a system price drop for starters?

Sony doesn't how how to stop digging it's own grave.

Honestly, so what? I can download MKII on my comp and play it. What is with the Wii not getting some good game coverage? I would think the wii controller would be great fro fighting games like this. In all honesty, I would love to see a brand new street fighter, I think it would be really good.

Someone doesn't know what they're talking about in that article. Goro replaced by a similar character called Kintaro? Goro, as far as I remember, was never in MK 2. And since when was Shang Tsung ever a boss in Mortal Kombat 2. Kintaro and Shao Kahn were the bosses in MK2. I think someone is getting MK1 and MK2 confused.

Would you please not pounce everytime there is a PS3 anouncement; it's kind of unseemly. I mean, I get it, it's not worth its price AT THE MOMENT, but don't confuse bad features scheduling and lateness of games with a bad system.
I gotta admit, I don't have a 360 or a Wii, and have not played them enough to compare with my PS3 experience, but I can at least say that the PS3 is an amazing, if over-expensive, piece of machinary. I love the Blu-ray capabilities, and I am a huge fan of the up-coming HD movie-on-demand possibilities because I am an unabashed cinephile and High Def is important to me. I love all the demo downloads available- and it works for sony to offer that because I'm definately getting MotorSytorm when it comes out after playing the demo so much.
I'll (probably) get the MK2 download, because there is a certain nostalgic nature to it, and its gotta be more fun than the Game Gear version I've still got...

Woohoo! Finally! I'd been waiting on a sign from the heavens that it was time to get a PS3, and if Mortal Kombat 2, isn't a sign, I don't know what is. Finally, there is a system out there to do this game justice--because only the cell processor is powerful enough to render the next-generation graphics of Mortal Kombat 2. And the gameplay? Wow, so far ahead of its time back in the 90's, only now can we fully appreciate the subtle strategies required to win. And in no way was Mortal Kombat a rip off of Street Fighter, only with more blood and gore for easily-impressed American teenagers. No sir, it was the pinnacle of the 90's fighting games.

Nintendo, those suckers, are probably reeling at this news. They've been outselling the PS3, and have succeeded in angering the slumbering Sony giant. Well, it looks like Sony has thrown down the gauntlet and come out swinging now.

Where do I plunk down my $604.99? Wow, I wonder if the tilt action on the PS3 controller will work with this thing?

And, what great timing, because my local Gamestop has PS3's in stock. I know this because they have had a sign up in their window since about 3 days after Christmas beg...advertising for customers to come buy one. Or, maybe I'll hold out for the European PS3. I hear they're getting some special backwards-compatibility goodness that aren't on the American or Japanese PS3's.
