Jonathan Mostow has stepped down as director of TONIGHT, HE COMES. The Columbia Pictures film stars Will Smith.

Smith and Mostow apparently disagreed about the direction of the project. Mostow will stay on as an executive producer.

As previously reported, Smith will play a disaffected and underappreciated superhero in existential crisis. The script was written by Vincent Ngo, then rewritten by Vince Gilligan.

Will Smith, Akiva Goldsman, Michael Mann and James Lassiter will produce.

I agree with whatgives. And it also shows stars have too much power in Hollywood. You're going to get rid of a director that made "Breakdown", "U-571", and "Terminator 3"? He's already proven himself more than capable. Smooth move, Smith.

Right! Isn't the director pretty much the 'boss' when it comes to the movie he's directing. This 'creative differences' stuff usually means that the 'diva' star doesn't want to do what the 'boss' wants. In my line of work you get fired for acting like that. Anyway, maybe Will Smith can finally try his hand at directing. Probably wasn't going to see this anyway.

I have to fall in line and agree here. I loved Smith's work in I ROBOT, which led me to forgive him for that INDEPENDENCE DAY ripoff garbage movie.

Mostow is the next Spielberg in the making, with great adventure movies as U-571 and T3. The premise in TONIGHT, HE COMES is tired already, anyways. Mostow's talents would be better used in some more original projects or for a sequel to Terminator.

I concur. This is most probably all Smith. When these stars get too big they just can't resist exerting their power and mucking things up. If this flops it'll serve him right.

Smith should get over himself and let the director direct. Regardless, the porn industry is gonna have a field day with that title LMAO.

When I judge whether or not a movie is worthy of checking out, I do so by who is the director foremost. The actors are secondary.

Let's face it, all industries are like that. Coaches are scared of players in sports because the public at large will come to see the players and not the man with a clip board. The public now is now over infatuated with celebrity, so they will see any piece of crap so long as there is a celebrity in it, and see it twice if there's a celbrity couple with cute name that identifies the pair. It's totally backwards, it's totally crap, but unfortunately money talks, so actors stay, and directors walk.

sorry, I should have said, "all entertainment industries". Us regular folks still have to put up with our bosses. I wish I could come into work at any job I have and have the pull over my boss like these actors do.
