almostunbiased .... like you said a genre movie would be a movie that fits into a particular genre.  So Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy movies are indeed genre movies.

If you happen to like movies that fall within a particular genre or group of genre's.  You may want to find a website that caters specifically to those genres.

I think many (like myself) thought that the Mania website dealt with the Sci-Fi, Action, Fantasy, Horror, Comics, and Anime genres.

If you went into the dvd dept of Barnes & Noble and perused the Sci-Fi movies and saw a copy of Les Mis you might say to a B&N employee...this does not belong in this genre.

Likewise if you came to a website for Sci-Fi etc. and it said Les Mis was the best movie of the year you could say that movie does not belong on this Genre website.

Uuuum I don't quite understand why Les Mis shouldn't be on here.  Mind you I haven't seen it.  But doesn't it count as a part of the "drama" genre?  Since when does that get disqualified?  I've been looking at this site for years and never got the impression that a movie like that didn't count.  By that standard movies like Forest Gump or Shawshank Redemption wouldn't count.  Maybe that actually is how it's been this whole time and I haven't noticed it.  But to me Mania has always been an entertainment website and includes ALL movies.

Also just a side point... why would Les Mis even have a review on this site if Mania didn't deal with dramas?

Dredd, needs to be in the was a great sci-fi action movie.. i would say The Avengers is best picture all the way..and TDKR for most over hype and bigest let down .

Sorry, phantomman....perhaps I was the one who was let me get over to SFX or Sci-Fi Now, before Mania reviews Anna Karenina

When it comes to reviews, the more the merrier says I.

No more non-genre movies on this site says I.  They are watering this site down.  There are more than enough genre movies, tv shows, books, comics, video games, ect to keep the news flowing like the Spice from Arrakis.  Non-genre movies are LAME when they are on a genre site.

The news dont stop though, its like getting free stuff.  They give u the genre stuff and more.

Eh, I don't mind Les Mis being mentioned on here, I's not my thing, but whatever...I really just hate all the music I've heard from it, so a big screen adaptation does absolutely zero for me.  Yes, we all know what SPECIFIC genres are usually implied when we refer to Mania as a "genre site" or to a movie as a "genre movie", but it's not like there isn't precedent.  Mania has reviewed both historical/period piece dramas and musicals, so really, there's precedent on two fronts there.

So Rob's favorite movie this year was a historical drama musical...quit argue about what qualifies as genre, just ask him if his time of the month is going to interfere with his next review, and offer to buy him some tampons.

I thought Prometheus was the biggest hype and biggest letdown, with that underwritten script and average characters, it could've and should've been way, way the hell better!!  That was the first sci-fi movie that Ridley Scott made since Blade Runner and he delivers a movie like Prometheus which I would consider worth watching only on video, a 2 and a half star movie out of four.  Not nearly as scary, as wowing, as action-packed, as thought-provoking, and as entertaining as promised.  Biggest letdown in my book!!
