It's adorable when microbes miss the person that was performing research on them as they feel abandoned.
What They Say
The Itsuki Seminar students might be able to bring Hasegawa back if somebody can win the Miss Agricultural University Contest. Kei, Hazuki, and Mutou are willing to try, but do any of them have what it takes?

Moyashimon has turned fairly serious for the last couple of episodes as it has dealt with the Hasegawa issue by having her spirited away for a marriage per an agreement with her father. There's some despondence over the fact there seems like there's little they can do to change things and Sawaki is really lamenting the loss of her after finally getting a little closer to finding out who she really is. When Sawaki learns of just how dedicated and into her research she was, it redoubles his feelings of needing to rescue her from this fate. Thankfully, the others in the club feel the same and have a plan.
Said plan includes cross dressing and competition as there is a Miss Agricultural University contest about to kick off where the women participate to show off their agri-skills. There's a lot of different kinds of activities for it and the girls of Itsuki's group all end up working hard together to try and win the prize which will allow them to go to France and rescue her. And Hasegawa certainly does seem like she doesn't want to be there as she looks at everything with memories of home. While she went along with it because of the agreement she made with her father, it wasn't without some reluctance in her heart for things that she has done.
The contest itself is fairly predictable in a lot of ways as the various girls of the university go through different things, all while wearing all manner of outfits in order to draw votes. The Itsuki girls end up wearing coveralls more often than note, though Kei keeps to her gothloli outfit, but they get to have a good bit of fun with the cosplay effect in general. One of them even wears Hasegawa's outfit and it looks pretty good on her too, which leads to a whole lot of interest by the guys. The agri-related aspects of the show are fun to watch, especially when Sawaki brings in a special dish to try and stack the odds in their favor, which leads to a lot of fun from the microbes as they overwhelm everyone.
Moyashimon does make a few nods towards the manga here with the contest, suggesting that some reading there will make things more understandable, but by and large what the audience gets is rather straightforward. A lot of the episode rides on Oikawa's abilities to win the contest but there are so many irregularities to it all that you can't be sure of what the real outcome is, especially after the previous episode that messed with the cast over their fundraiser. The whole thing does turn to a traditional end of contest speech which reminds us that while it works well in anime, it wouldn't in the real world. The series has lost a fair bit of steam after the really fun aphrodisiac episodes and now as it draws to its conclusion, it's just going through some of the motions. There are fun bits to it, but the microbes continue to be marginalized in favor of character drama and it's all rather bland in that regard compared to earlier episodes.
