The amount of money made by each "Star Wars" film depends on how you count it. One can gauge them solely by initial domestic gross, by overall international gross and by grosses that include various re-releases and special editions. The best method is probably adding all those figures up to obtain a total lifetime theatrical gross. The figures presented here are through June 2009 and exclude DVD releases.
A New Hope
The first "Star Wars" move has grossed $461 million domestically and $775 million worldwide.
The Empire Strikes Back
"Empire" has grossed $290 million domestically over its lifetime and $538 million worldwide.
Return of the Jedi
Including re-releases, "Return of the Jedi" grossed just under $310 million domestically and just over $475 million worldwide.
The Phantom Menace
"The Phantom Menace" has grossed $431 million domestically and $924 million worldwide during its run: figures are affected by the inflation that took place between the release of the original trilogy and the release of the follow-up movies.
Attack of the Clones
"Attack of the Clones" has grossed $310 million domestically and $649 million worldwide. Those figures include an IMAX release; the first ever for a "Star Wars" movie.
Revenge of the Sith
The finale to the "Star Wars" saga grossed $380 million domestically and $849 million worldwide.
