Richard Matheson Has Passed

1926 - 2013

By Robert T. Trate     June 24, 2013

The sad news arrived on Monday that one of the true great writers of our age has passed. Richard Matheson, passed away in his family home on Sunday night. His daughter Ali wrote the following:
"My beloved father passed away yesterday at home surrounded by the people and things he loved...he was funny, brilliant, loving, generous, kind, creative, and the most wonderful father ever...I miss you and love you forever Pop and I know you are now happy and healthy in a beautiful place full of love and joy you always knew was there..."

Matheson was a true legend of the written of word and his books and short stories leaped off the page into our televisions and onto the big screen.

We here at Mania mourn the loss of a man who inspired us in so many ways. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I haven't read any of Richard's written works, but I have enjoyed his onscreen material immensely over the years. The Incredible Shrinking Man has been a favourite since I was small.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. Another one gone.

I never read any of his work but I think I've seen everything of his that was adapted to movies or the stuff he personally wrote for the screen.

A great and influential figure in the world of sci-fi, movies, and pop culture.

Good journey to you into the Twilight Zone! He IS Legend.

I had to look up what he did.  Some interesting stuff.  My thoughts go out to his family.

 Very sad.

Next to Ray Bradbury, one of the most infuential SF writers of the last century.

Rest in peace, sir.

Anyone who has seen his Twilight Zone episodes or read his short stories and novels knows what a creative, wonderful writer this man was. He was one of the greatest voices in science fiction ever. "I am legend" indeed. You are a legend Richard. Thank for your life's work. You will definitely be missed.
