Say goodbye to any reference to the long running mythology plotline for X-Files 2, says Chris Carter. In an article over at Usa Today, the creator confirmed about what not to expect in this upcoming sequel from 20th Century Fox. It was already leaked and rumored that this would be a stand-alone but here's yet another confirmation from the creator.

"We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads" when the show went off the air in 2002, says Chris Carter,. "We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology conspiracy one."

The article also released two new pics featuring Mulder and Scully, which I'll place down below. The next film was penned by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz with the former back behind the camera as director. This sequel stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Xzibit, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly, Callum Keith Rennie and Adam Godley.

The X-Files 2 will hit theaters July 25, 2008.

The time is right for this movie. Enough time's passed that the bad taste from the past few seasons of the show is finally out of our mouth.

Wasn't it revealed in the last season that Mulder was the father of Scully's baby ?

As someone stated before, the last couple of seasons stunk. I hope this movie gives us the "feel" of the show at its prime.

re: baby

It wasn't so much revealed as it was made blatantly obvious.

I'm glad they won't make the movie a part of the overall mythology. While I enjoyed the mythology stories earlier in the run of the show, it kept slowing down until the pace of that story was slower than a glacier. A great deal of their best shows were not related to the Mythos (e.g. the one with Peter Boyle as the insurance guy who could foresee a person's death).

Oh, and I'd TOTALLY turn straight for Gillian Anderson.

Old style X-Files, with Mulder and Scully, and no convoluted over-extended plot lines!

YAY! I used to love the show, but stopped watching about season 4-5 when things just got more and more labyrinthine.

I just don't know yet. i loved the show (the first movie was okay) but it has been over 5 years since the show ended and the last season was very unforgetable. I may need to watch some episodes in syndication to get my x-files jones back.
