Dumb idea.
While sitting down to discuss life, his views on Hollywood and just about everything else with Mail Online, Bill Murray confirmed a rumor that's been floating around in regards to Ghostbusters 3. Beware, there are spoilers involved.

While promoting Avatar, co-star Sigourney Weaver surprised quite a few people by revealing that if Bill Murray comes back to do the third installment, it would consist of his character, Peter Venkman, in mostly a ghostly form.
And for his part, Bill Murray has confirmed that was one of the demands he made before agreeing to come back for Ghostbusters 3.
"I'll come back in Ghostbusters III only if I get to be a ghost." says Murray to Mail Online. "I said to them, 'I'll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.' So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film."

Sony's next installment in the series will reportedly involve passing the baton of fighting the supernatural to a new younger team of Ghostbusters, with Oscar--the child of Weaver and Murray's character-- among them. Director Ivan Reitman is helming from a screenplay by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.

Oscar is not Murray's character's kid!!!! He is only Weaver's character's kid. I don't know if I like the idea that Murray's character is dead in the third one.
The entire idea for another sequel is pretty lame IMO. I just can't see them recapturing that magic again and like someone mentioned before in this time and age this seems more apt as a tv series than a feature
True, I'm not as big a fan as some here so I hope I'm wrong. With Bill Murray involved there's always hope
im not with this i cant get how ghostbusters 3 cant be made with all the origional cast doing something new
Well that bit of news did not spike my interest. I hope, if this holds up, that Ghostbusters 3 stays in limbo.
I think it's an interesting idea. The "handing it off to a new generation" seems lame an I hope it doesn't become a Blues Brother 2000-like travisty. Still, could be interesting...
Soooo..... Murray will be replacing Slimer or what?

Him being dead gives him a chance to have more screen time, and he gets to steal a few scenes....which he's famous for doing. It also gives him a chance to be in a sequel, if the movie does well....smart move on his part....
