Takumaro Kaibara: brilliant detective, daring adventurer, AND TOTAL PERVERT! There's no crime he can't solve, and no skirt he won't chase in the name of justice! So when Takumaro lands a case at Nonomura Hospital (famous for its hot nurses), it seems like a match made in Heaven.
Now somewhere between his busy schedule of pick-up lines and peeking at the nurses' panties, Takumaro must uncover the truth behind the death of the hospital's president. Was it really a suicide or was it cold-blooded murder? The nurses aren't talking and everyone seems to be hiding something. But Takumaro isn't worried " his biggest challenge is to make it with that cute redhead, or die trying!
A hilarious combination of action, suspense and outrageous comedy that's perfect for fans of City Hunter and Golden Boy! The Review!
Nonomura shifts the hentai genre a bit by trying to be both a thriller and something of an ecchi style comedy at the same time, but has difficulty in getting them to play well with each other.Audio:
Since hentai in English sounds wrong unless you're watching it with friends, we stuck with the Japanese track for this release. The mix is a decent sounding stereo mix though as we've come to expect with a lot of hentai mixes, it's very center channel oriented. There isn't much noticeable in the way of directionality across a wide forward soundstage. Dialogue is nice and clear though and we had no issues with dropouts or distortions.Video:
Originally released to video back in 1996, Nonomura is definitely a traditionally animated show and it shows. The transfer here looks good for the most part, with some occasional softness and graininess attributed to the filmstock and animation style used. Cross coloration appears to be pretty non-existent and there were only a few scenes where aliasing during sideways panning looked bad. Colors are solid without bleeding as well as providing a good mix of natural and vibrant areas.Packaging:
Since this is
a hospital show, it stands to reason that the cover must be populated by nurses. This allows fetishists to find their product easily. Nonomura obliges with a shot of three nurses, though not too scantily clad, as well as a partial facial shot of another woman in the series. With heavy dark colors around them and a black background, the cover art is eye-catching but lacks some of the vibrancy needed to really grab you. The back cover has a variety of shots from the show that also point out some of both the comical and thriller side of the two episodes. The summary covers the episodes nicely and there's a good listing of the discs extras and features. Due to this being a review copy, there is no insert included.Menu:
The menu layout is done in an interesting way, where the backdrop is a series of animation clips from the show strung together but a bit opaque. Above it, there are two clearer windows playing the same thing while selections are listed along the left. It's a little more creative than just a clip for a background and selections on top of it. There are no transitional animations included with the trailers so accessing submenus is nice and fast and everything loads quickly.Extras:
Just under two minutes in length, the slide show art gallery has mostly shots from the show itself but also a few high quality images and artwork as well.Content:

The Mystery of Nonomura Hospital is, at times, an amusing little two part hentai detective story that has a private detective taking a case at the hospital to figure out how the President of it really died as opposed to the suicide that it's been labeled as.
The detective, one Takumaro Kaibara, is a familiar breed of private dick; he's broke, his office is close to being closed down due to funds for the rent and he's generally pretty horny as hell and really loves making lewd comments to the women he comes across. So when he's close to losing his place again, he leaps at the opportunity of taking up a case for Nonomura Hospital. The president there recently committed suicide but the vice president, a very attractive if cold feeling woman, doesn't believe that to be the truth and wants to know who really killed him. It's not surprising that she's not just the vice president, but also the widow of the president.
On his way to the hospital on his scooter bike, Kaibara literally runs into Ryoko Ito, a woman who works for a different agency that Kaibara continually tries to seduce in one way or another. Though he fails again here, he does get her help a bit as he's broken his leg in the near-hit he had with her and finds himself checked into Nonomura Hospital as a patient as well as a client. Ito reveals that they had been looking into things as well but had been dismissed by the vice president. After suffering some more of his come-ons though, Ito leaves him to his dream world of nurses.
Kaibara goes right into pervert mode with almost every nurse and offers all sorts of pick-up lines that fail miserably continually. Eventually, he ends up discussing the situation with the vice president, where he learns that there's more to the story of her deceased husband and what he does with the nurses in this hospital " a hospital that seems to be filled only with very attractive nurses. So with Kaibara stuck using either a wheelchair or one of those little mini-powered scooters, he makes his way around the hospital in-between his own appointments to try and discover what's going on and how the president really died. It's a growing mystery as each person he talks to starts coming up with motives that fit all too well.
The show then progresses down the road where we see some of the secrets held by people inside the hospital " it's little surprise that the vice president is really a dominatrix, and Kaibara tries to put everything together from the various elements that suggest certain perpetrators, but ones that don't seem to have a real motive. All of this while he's reeling in pain half the time from his own injuries. The actual sex scenes tend to range a bit from some consensual ones to even a bit of scat in one scene. Suffice to say, the nurses are well used in this hospital by those in power. In Summary:
The animation is pretty decent, with some rather nice character designs. While the show isn't as explicit as a lot of tentacle hentai, there's plenty here that will please most fans of the genre. Kaibara's an amusing hero for the show since he's just as horny as most of the others that are in control of the hospital, but he's not got the real dark deviant side that they do. There are some good comical moments throughout it which is a really nice change of pace from all the dark and gloomy hentai we've been seeing continually for so long now.
