What They Say
This mondo-mega-hit theatrical feature released in '98 was produced as a sequel to the equally popular TV series. Bonus features include theatrical spots, trailers, promo clip for the theme song ''Dearest'', and more. The show's high point is the exciting plot that starts out with the destruction of 4 space colonies, not to mention the introduction of several new characters and detailed depiction of hardware relying on high quality visuals.

The Review!
Sorry for my bad English if you spot any. This is Bigfire so if you've ever talked with me on the forum then you will know why my English is so bad.
Nadesico has been voted as the "best anime series ever made" by Animage. And now the hit movie "Nadesico Prince of Darkness" has finally been released on DVD. With a regular and limited edition of the DVD being available. The series itself in my mind is one of the best series I have ever seen. Nadesico is either on par with Evangelion or even better.

Right off the bat, this DVD has already paid for itself with its gorgeous packaging and extra booklet that is included. The packaging uses the same slip case as the Tenchi Ultimate Collection but is not as destructive. You can slip the DVD and the booklet in nice and easily without killing the corners of your DVD/booklet. The booklet contains a collection of pictures of the crew of Nadesico and focuses a lot on Ruri, which only make sense since she is the main character of the movie.

Menu navigation of the DVD is nice and fluid although at times rather slow. The DVD uses a simple background for the main menu. The menu background for the extras is a little bit more creative using the flying top character (can't seem to remember the name) as the background. The extras on this DVD include the music video "The Dearest" (main theme of the movie), usual theatrical previews of the movie and also the summarization of the original Nadesico TV. series which is very cool but will also give away a lot ofspoilers if you haven't seen all of the original before.

One of the features of this DVD that really stands out in my mind is the option to choose a narrator for the menu selections. You can actually choose between to characters (Ruri or Maki) to narrate the menu choices you select. So if you have the narrator option on and press "play movie" you will hear a voice saying "now starting movie". The inclusion of Maki Izumi as one of the characters to narrate really surprised me. If your not sure who Maki is, she is that STRANGE green haired woman who always play the ukulele (small guitar) and who's voice is very creepy (sounds like a deep throated man), but I love her (Kwan prefers Ruri).

The audio for this movie is Dolby Digital 2.0 nothing special. I was wishing for a 5.1 remix on this movie but oh well, I will take whatever I can get. Dolby Digital 2.0 is still very nice.

Video quality is very nice and very clear - maybe because we were the movie on a 32 inch Song Wega? There were no color problems and the computer screens from the movie where crisp and clear. You could actually read each and every character on the computer monitors with no problems.

The movie follows the same time line as the original Nadesico TV. series. It has now been 3 years after the TV. ending and the Nadesico crew has been disbanded and many of the crew have moved on to do their own things. Without giving too much away some main characters return from the dead and others have changed a lot. The show itself it just amazing! There is a lot of action and actually a lot of drama, it kind reminds me of Patlabor 2 the Movie and I am a HUGE Patlabor fan. If your a Nadesico fan we'd (Tong and Kwan) would highly recommend seeing this movie. But a warning to you, if you haven't seen all of the Nadesico TV. series a lot of spoilers are shown within the first 5 minutes of the movie. So if you can watch the Nadesico series first but if you don't you'll still enjoy it immensely (Kwan and Tong did).

I bought this DVD from CD Japan and found their service to be great. The DVD was shipped one day before the street date and was in my hands within 4 days. I would definitely buy more from them in the future.
