The Review!
4 out of 5
Music found in the Nadia series The Secret of Blue Water.

This CD comes with a three-page insert. The insert contains a quick look at a few soundtrack titles available through ADV. And the final page has the CD credits.

Lyricists Etsuko Kisugui, Hi Sa Ko, and Miho Morikawa, the same writing trio that brought us vocals such as those in Dirty Pair and Maison Ikkoku, have brought us four more wonderful vocals to entertain the music palette are again on board for this one. They have taken it upon themselves to surpass the beauty of the last one by writing five tracks that just sing to the heart.

Of course no vocal can be complete without the singer, and for these five little gems we’ve got Two vocals sung by Miho Morikawa, whose vocal talents can also be found on the Dirty Pair soundtrack as well as in the movie “007: The World Is Not Enough”, where she appears as a casino singer. Ms. Morikawa has a unique voice that is a true tribute to the Nadia characters and situations. Her voice is strong in both vocals, and has the power to bring the listener through a range of emotions in one song. The slower of the two vocals is a very nice heart to heart with the listener, that makes you feel as if Ms. Morikawa is singing directly to you.

Joining in on the vocal fun is Noriko Hidaka, of Japanese radio fame. Has lent her vocals again to an anime soundtrack, you may remember her catchy voice in the ending of Gunbuster. Yoshino Takamori of Bubble Gum Crisis (the original) fame, and Karen Kirishima most remember for the Beatles cover songs that she did for the Japanese public. These three ladies are a great balance to Ms. Morikawa, as they give powerful performances that fill the listener with pure emotion.

The music that is not lacking in any way is the instrumentals that make up the rest of the CD. They have that great ability to wrap around the listener and drag you into an emotional roller coaster that leaves you begging for more. The classical European style of instrumental is prominent in this CD, and it is a true inspiration to the listener. There is not a let down in any of these instrumentals. They range from the slower tearjerker to the intense suspense filled numbers that had me on the edge of my seat throughout. A great listen all the way through. And with composers Yoshimasa Inoue, who worked on the Dirty pair soundtrack, Shiro Sagisu, whom you may remember from the Kimagure Orange Road or Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hiromasa Ijichi, who worked with J-pop star Karen Mok, and Joe Rinoie, whose work includes After War Gundam X back on board, how can you go wrong. The compositions are up to par with what one would expect from these great composers, and their individual works are only surpassed by their collaborations on tracks number 1, 18, and 12. A wonderful world of sounds that is a truly pleasing listen.

I’d have to say a true joy to listen to.
