NARNIA on the Move!

The sequel to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, originally scheduled for December 14, 2007, has moved to the summer of 2008. The sequel will be titled The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Disney moved the date after Columbia Pictures announced Tuesday it was releasing The Water Horse on December 8, 2007. The Water Horse is a similarly themed fantasy fable aimed at familys.

To be honest, I really don't understand this move. Narnia did great buisness over the Winter box office season. The movie had an above average opening and great legs ... so why move it? Why should Narnia be scared of a movie with a fraction of the fan base?

Am I missing something here? Seriously, I am asking.

What is "The Water Horse" and why is Disney scared of it?

(I like the sound of that statement but I'm serious, what is this "The Water Horse" movie?

If you had taken the 5 seconds to do a web search that I did, Karl, you'd realize that The Water Horse was a fantasy movie for kids being produced by Walden Media. You know, the same Walden Media producing Narnia. Do you really think that Walden Media is scared of Walden Media?

Cinescape reported on The Water Horse a little while back. I think it's a movie about a mythological Scottish creature and a boy who befriends one. I seem to remember references to "Pete's Dragon" during the postings.

Wes, that's what I remember about "The Water Horse". This comment is kinda funny because Karl didn't put 2 n 2 together on the movie relationship.

Disney should have left Chronicles and let Columbia move Water Horse. It's probably all about money. Lion did enough business that Disney now figures they can capitalize on the summer box office and make even more money off of Prince Caspian than if they released in winter.

Which is kinda odd to me that they would do this. The public is used to having a big-budget fantasy epic released in December now. I'm really surpised that they did move it.

Since Disney's traditional animation section hasn't been successfully putting out their ususal summer must-see for several years, I wonder if this move has something to do with Disney wanting a summer tent-pole movie (that doesn't start with the word "Pirates"
I understand that since they officially took over Pixar that they are also talking about reinvesting their talent into invigorating their cel-animation arm, but maybe this is what they will do for family movies in the interm, until they can get back to the "glory days" of traditional animation that had Beauty and the Beast, Aladin, Lion King, etc;

The system cut out one of my paragraphs!

Another reason this could perform well in the summer is that it lacks the Christmas-y winter snow theme that Lion... did - that one had to be a holiday film.

Yeah, I think that this is a good move. Caspian will be epic and will have mainstream appeal like the first one, and should play very well during the summer. Plus, I heard that this movie is more complex than the first, so maybe they need the extra time. I say give them the time to do it right.
