Curious news has leaked out of the upcoming horror adaptation, THE BOX, says Bloody Disgusting. Apparently, N.A.S.A is involved with the film, specifically in terms with their old "Viking" project. This film, scheduled to shoot in Virginia and Boston, is set in 1971 in the Virginia area. Director Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) is adapting this story from the Richard Matheson short story, "Button, Button". I can't recall the space agency being involved in his story or being featured in the only adaption of the story to this date, a Twilight Zone show from 1986.

Still, it's not surprising if some story details are added into the mix because the overall theme will remain the same. A mysterious stranger (Frank Langella which you can see to the left.) will give Cameron Diaz a "box" which has deadly consequences...

Ahh yes I believe I saw this episode of Twilight zone. There's a box with a button in it. If you press the button you get a million dollars but someone you've never met will die.

Yep, that's the story all right. Don't recall any astronauts in it, though . . . .

/highfive Miner - Good shot; however, personally, I do not find Cameron Diaz attractive and do not want to see ... ok, that's enough. ;-D

I saw the episode and I remember that – like most of the episodes of the old series – the twist in the end was very cool. I won’t spoil it for anyone, but it gives you something to think about. It is a great short story but I don’t know how well it would translate to a full movie.

I’m a huge fan of the old B&W show and always appreciated the way the stories where much more surreal and chilling than explicit and gory, mostly dealing with some aspect of the human nature (vanity, loneliness, greed, etc.) that made it all the more creepy for being something we could relate to. I hope the movie keeps this approach.

Sounds like Hellraiser to me....

Because Clive Barker invented spooky boxes?

Seriously, the Matheson story way predates Hellraiser . . . .

That is so funny. A co-worker told me about the episode in question earlier tonight. Sounded interesting.
