The slow wave of Green Lantern news this year will take a bit of a side road as DC Comics will be bringing out their Green Lantern: Emerald Knights direct to video release as well as the big theatrical film. TV Guide has a brief chat up today with the man behind the character of Hal Jordan which is actually one of the best bits of casting out there. Nathan Fillion, long an actor that fans have enjoyed who has plenty of comic roots himself, will be playing Hal Jordan in the show while Ryan Reynolds is in the live action version. The connection? The two got their big starts together working on Two Guys and a Girl on ABC many years ago and they've long had admiration and kind words for each other. Fillion is definitely enthused about the animated venture though and says, "I was always reading the comic books, I was always a spectator. Now I feel like I own a little piece of Green Lantern."

The DVD and Blu-ray release is scheduled for June 7th and it will be a feature that is done with several vignettes that allows for the variety of the Corps to be covered and focuses on Jordan's mentoring of Arisia as played by Elisabeth Moss.

Nathan Fillion as the animated Green Lantern...?

Cobie Smulders as a SHIELD agent...?

Yvonne Strahovski as Ms Marvel...?

Those are three of the best casting decisions I've heard in a long while, and I find out about them within seconds of each other!  Hope they all pan out!

Moz - you are so right, that fan trailer someone made with Fillion wearing the GL suit was awesome. I know he is not considered an A-lister in Hollywood but I think he would have made a great (the live) Hal and there wouldnt be so many doubts about the movie.

First Steve Trevor, now Hal Jordan. A live action role is next.  (I just discovered Susan Sullivan, his mother on Castle, was the voice of Hippolyta on Justice League...)
