NBC has announced they are developing a spin-off of HEROES called HEROES: ORIGINS.

ORIGINS will center on characters not yet seen on the original show. NBC will ask viewers to pick their favorite character from HEROES: ORIGINS, who will then join the cast of HEROES the following year.  Six episodes have been ordered.

The new show will air on Mondays in the same times slot as HEROES, when that show goes on hiatus.

This is a great idea. Anything that brings me more Heroes is super-double-awesome.

It means 30 hours of Hero's this year / next year and I wish more networks would use this true "mini series" idea.

Welcome to Heroes Idol! Actually, some one-shots could be neat, and it should be better than the vacuum of a 6 week break.

The Batman comic book used something similar in the Death in the Family series. At the time, there were many critics of the "call-in to determine the character's fate." I think most were against it because it devalued the writer's job, especially since Robin was not a minor character. As reluctant as they (Marvel/DC) are to kill off characters (not that it matters since they eventually come back) I guess it would have been more admirable if they had decided to kill off Jason Todd than let the readers decide it.

But this could work out well; not to mention, NBC needs all the help it can get. Some of its other super-shows sound really bad... "Brooke Shields headlines an hour-long series about three high-powered women friends". No premise offered, but they already lost me at B.S.

That Brooke Shields show is not a "Super-show." They aren't three super powered friends, they're three "high-powered" friends. One's a movie executive, one's ceo of a fashion magazine and one's a designer.

I was already on my way back to edit that after I noticed a better description in the newspaper.

I inferred otherwise under the heading "NBC Going Supernatural With Fall Season" by my local NBC affiliate in which they gave no premise; still, my decision not to watch remains the same for the same reason.

This stinks of a gimmick-based milking of a cash cow. This would be like Law & Order trying to capitalize on it's success by copying the formula on a new show and... oh, wait. Ok, we'll take another highly rated show like CSI... Oh. Never mind.

This is so crazy it might work.

Don't know if I'll be following that part of the show. We'll see, I guess.

Bad idea!!! They should do a spin-off series called "Villains"--a series that would cover the development of regular human beings as they discover their super powers...and decide to use them to become, what else but, Villains!!! This series would allow plenty of cross-over opportunities from the regular cast of Heroes...past, present and future, and would be a very good companion series for the original show.

whether good or bad idea it stinks of desperation.

as I understand, their idea to stay off the air so long this spring backfired and did not do good things to the ratings. so in a classic example of overcompensation, they're going to beat us to death with the show over the summer.
