NBC Rejects Wonder Woman

NBC passes on new Wonder Woman pilot.

What network would pass on picking up a TV series based on an iconic superhero after tons of public exposure? Well, it seems that NBC falls into that category, with the Hollywood Reporter passing along the peacock network has rejected "Wonder Woman." The surprising snub comes after countless set photos of Adrianne Palicki--the actress who was set to play the title character---entered the public conscious and became a source of water cooler discussion.

The trade reports that after lackluster buzz and a network screening that went poorly, the network made their decision.

It would have starred Palicki, Elizabeth Hurley, Tracie Thoms and Cary Elwes. Jeff Reiner (The Event) directed the pilot, based on a script by showrunner David E. Kelly.

Thoms, who would have played Wonder Woman/Diana Prince's best friend Etta, voiced her disappoinment on Twitter, saying, "I am very sad that NBC passed on Wonder Woman. But that just goes to show you: There is no such thing as a "sure thing" in this biz."

Yep...another DC character who is suppose to be ''big'' but, when it comes to showing-up for something interesting, it fails in the interest of many people and it's not surprising at all.

I don't think the concept is bad or the pilote was bad, but the character itself in our modern minds doesn't fit with the character and it would be best to leave it as a cartoon or comics but not in real life.

It was funny in the 70's but hey, in those days fluffy dice in a car was considered cool to so, you do the math...

I was looking forward to this show. Oh well who knows maybe CW could pick it up as a repalcement for Smallville.

Unless it was really bad, someone will pick it up.  The question is, can they make the show and make it well with a second or third tier network budget?

SHOCKER!  It sounded and looked so good.

The photos of her in the costume really killed it I think.  It just looked hoaky.  It looked like they took the outfit straight out of a halloween costume shop instead of trying to update her look and make it relevant today.  I'm definitely not surprised by this.

Personally I just think it was a bad concept. I mean my eyes rolled when I read the description of what they were going to do and it didn't sound interesting at all. Also I hate to say this, but in order to make a Wonder Woman show, you need an actress that has charisma and I didn't think the actress that was going to play her could have.

I agree ddiaz....it totally looked like a halloween costume.  I was wondering how that was going to fly with an audience, and it didn't even get the chance.

I thought this looked like crap!

I'm surprised but from what has leaked about the storyline I'm kind of glad. It sounded more like a struggling yuppie Ally McBeal type trying to deal with her career and superherodom, while pining over the man she can't get. This would be a better plotline for a She-Hulk series rather than the life of a confidant, strong demi- goddess traveling through Man's World. Some other network will probably pick this up, possibly even SyFy, since they are making a point of trying to appeal to women.

I don't know how Palicki is in the role but I think I would have much preferred Jamie Alexander (Sif from Thor movie) in the part. She is familiar with the comic and saw her in the right light:

If I got approached to play Wonder Woman, which has happened once or twice, I would have to say, “Look, let’s take this serious. Let’s make her a positive role model. Let’s make this a non-campy version of her.”

I look forward to seeing the WW pilot on iTunes or Hulu.  We got to see Mercy Reef, the Aquaman pilot there.
