HBO Scraps Adaptation of PREACHER - Aug 29, 2008 - 04:04am
Speaking of violent and potentially controversial HBO adaptations, whatever happened to the planned series based on George R.R. Martin's "Song of FIre and Ice"?
Alex Proyas Adapting Heinlein's JONATHAN HOAG - Aug 21, 2008 - 05:38am
Having read the summary on wiki, all I'll say is that it's very strange and the profession in question is not what you think.
CONAN Getting a Rewrite for Lionsgate - Aug 13, 2008 - 04:57pm
Actually The Cimerrians were, according to Howard, ancestors of the Celts. The Scandahoovian races were the Aesir and Vanir. I would love to see a Conan that stayed true to Howards stories. The first movie picked and chose but at least stayed true to his spirit, the second, meh :P, the only Howardesque moment was when he freed Grace Jones' character and I wanted that damned rogue fried on a spit.
Angelina Jolie Replaces Cruise in EDWIN A. SALT - Aug 13, 2008 - 04:49pm
I'm guessing they picked Jolie because she's more manly than Cruise. I don't see her as Dagny Taggart, maybe as Catwoman. Lions For Lambs tanked because it's kneejerk leftist message wasn't likely to play anywhere besides Berkely, Hollywood, or Harvard. Well, maybe Cuba but that's a bit more centrist than the other three so maybe not.
Sony Grabs Screenwriters for FLASH GORDON - Aug 09, 2008 - 04:30pm
Matches, in the original serials Flash was a rich boy polo player. It wasn't until the 80s movie that he was turned into a football player and more of an Average Joe.
I actually hope they don't go the camp route simply because they couldn't possibly do better/worse than the movie, especially because Zefferelli (sp) actually intended it as a serious movie which only makes it funnier. My favorite character had to be Vultan, so delightfully and cheerfully cynical.
As for the Sci-Fi series, the less said the better.
Michael Rymer Confirmed for WITCHBLADE - Jul 23, 2008 - 08:27am
I never read the comic either but I loved the series and loved Yancy Butler in the role. ffft5305, I second that motion.
SIMON: KING OF THE WITCHES - Jun 24, 2008 - 12:03pm
I love this film. Except for "Practical Magic" it's the only fictional film that has even a bit of a clue about how magic really works. The only discordant note is that a male witch wouldn't call himself a warlock (for reasons I won't go into at the moment unless someone's curious). On the other hand a warlock might define himself as a "male witch". The scene where he cuts the link between himself and Turk (Am I the only one who sees homosexual undetones to their relationship?) to spare his young friend from the doom he knows is headed his way is surprisingly touching and sad.
TV Review: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Revelations - Jun 18, 2008 - 10:54am
I think think the 5th of five is waiting for them on Earth. Btw, when they were panning out did anyone else expect to see a ruined Statue of Liberty?
Amanda Peet Opposite Cusack in 2012 - Jun 13, 2008 - 10:12am
Not sure but I think it's based on the Whitley Streiber novel of the same name in which case, supernatural.
Shyamalan Talks LAST AIRBENDER - Jun 10, 2008 - 07:47am
I'd love to see an Avatar movie but not so sure I'd like to see Shyamalan directing it. Will withold judgement though until I hear more.
LOST: No Place Like Home Part 2 - May 31, 2008 - 07:53am
Don't know what her name was either Hanso but I know it wasn't Charlotte (Anne I think). I'm betting that she was the last [erson to move the island and thatshe joined the expedition to get back. Am also betting that when the Six return Walt will be with them.
Olympus & Morrow Combine for Sci-Fi SPIN - May 21, 2008 - 07:00am
The book was great, high concept Sci-Fi at it's best and the plot summary, if it's for the movie sounds like they'll be sticking close to the book.
WITCHBLADE Gets Big Screen Treatment - May 12, 2008 - 02:12pm
Never read the comic but loved the series, it was too bad it got canceled, regardless of why. Hopefully the movie will be as good.
Morales Joins CAPRICA - May 08, 2008 - 09:07am
Morales rocked in Jericho and I'm sure he will here too.
New Full HANCOCK Trailer Online - May 03, 2008 - 06:51am
My take is that Theron plays his ex-wife and not necessarily a villain, just someone who doesn't trust him.
Sleestaks Revealed for LOST Remake - May 01, 2008 - 09:34am
Okay,, the Sleestak look cool but I still ain't gonna watch it in theatres. Maybe when it comes to cable.
Batman Begins' Tone Influencing WOLVERINE? - May 01, 2008 - 09:32am
It's kind of a chicken and egg thing. Maybe Batman begins influenced the current Wolverine movie but then it could be argued that the hard edge of The comic book Wolvie inspired, at least in part, the dark, gritty Batman of "Return of the Dark Knight" and "the Killing Joke" which is where the movies got their darkness from. One of my favorite quotes: Frank Miller" It was up to my generation to give Batman his balls back."
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Escape Velocity - Apr 29, 2008 - 07:50am
Actually Baltar's message of "We are all perfect" is the exact opposite of Christianity's "We are all sinners" message. Makes me think that he's being set up not as a Christ figure but an Anti-Christ figure.
I'll admit, the levitation thing was a bit against expectation but remember it happened just before the speech, at the end of the episode. Am assuming that there will be much argument as to whether or not that happened in the next episode.
The only characters I regard right now as having no redeemable characteristics are No. 1 of the Cylons (Brother whatsisname) and Tory. I wonder if Baltar would be quite so enthusiastic about the whole "we are perfect" line if he knew that A: It had been given to him by a Cylon and B: She came up with it as an excuse for murder.
Universal Options Alien Invasion in RESURRECTION - Apr 28, 2008 - 09:39am
Sounds interesting. I mean, lets take War of the Worlds as an example. Okay, the Martians are gone but the earth has been devastated, entire civilizations wrecked, now what?
Second PRINCE CASPIAN Trailer Hits Net - Apr 26, 2008 - 10:03am
First off, let me say that I am not a CHristian, I'm an eclectic pagan so I have no pro-Christian axe to grind any more than supes has an anti-Christian one. That being said I like Lewis, consider him one of the most intelligent and cogent Christian theologians and have read just about everything fictional and much non-fictional that he's written and I liked the first movies. Simply put if you don't like Christian imagery than don't see any of these movies. I like them as adventure flicks and I thought the religious allegory scenes were very well done.
McGowan is Still Set for Rodriguez's BARBARELLA? - Apr 12, 2008 - 07:01am
Actually Planet Terror made me a believer. Before that I wasn't really crazy about her looks, especially her Man Chin. I would still have preferred her in the Evil Queen role with say Lindsay Lohan as Barbarella but I'll take what I can get.
SCI Channel Gets Upfront with New Shows! - Mar 24, 2008 - 08:51am
I have high hopes for Caprica, True Believer and Deputized both sound like they have potential. Didn't know Rosario did comics. Is there anything that woman can't do?
I just hope, in the name of all that is unholy, decadent and corrupt that they don't have Zoey Deschanel playing Alice. Someone capable of at least some facial expression and tonal change please? As for Tin Man, it grew on me. Hated it at first but loved the ending.
Three New TV Spots for PRINCE CASPIAN - Mar 24, 2008 - 08:44am
Who would Epitome? The actor playing Caspian or the one playing Peter?
A little dissapointed there wasn't more in the TV spots that we didn't see in the trailer although the badger, dwarf and Reepicheep looked nice.
New Featurette for PRINCE CASPIAN - Mar 04, 2008 - 07:47am
I liked it and I'm not a Christian. I enjoyed it on the level of a well told adventure fantasy. I didn't have a problem with the imagery at all. If you didn't know that the movie would be chock full of Christian imagery you must have known nothing about the books. If you did know about the books and found the imagery offensive, then why did you go see the movie?
Sorvino Looking For LAST TEMPLAR - Mar 04, 2008 - 07:39am
I loved Whyte's take on King Arthur so I'll check out his Templar series.
I'm guessing TayDor is a standard Christian who doesn't like his myth being questioned. Although to be fair the movie, and even more the book, can be as rigidly dogmatic as the belief system they attack (and it is an attack, especially in the book, not just questioning).
Murphy & Lohan Get RAZZIED - Feb 26, 2008 - 11:55am
I am liking of the freckles. Also of the boobs which were nicely on display in the Marilyn Monroe tribute she did recently. All this blather has comfirmed my need to see "I Know Who Killed Me" if only to see if it's really that bad. No power on Earth however will get me to watch "Norbit".
LOST: Eggtown - Feb 26, 2008 - 11:46am
The credits after the show refer to Aaron as "Unnamed Two-Year Old" so, depending on how long it takes them to get off the island I would say this episode occurs 18-24 months after they return to civilization. As for what Kate's mother said, remember that she had cancer before the crash so lets say the scene at the hospital took place two years previous to the crash.
JERICHO: Condor - Feb 22, 2008 - 07:46am
As for people not accepting a made up history, what do you think they do now? All any history is is a fiction created for the convenience of whoever happens to be in charge, or trying to become the ones in charge. It was true of Thucydides and it's true now
Jericho: Reconstruction - Feb 14, 2008 - 10:27am
I had an epiphany about this show recently. It's basically about what would happen if Jack Bauer failed in one of his missions with Hawkins standing in for Bauer
Ryan Gosling as JACK RYAN? - Jan 29, 2008 - 09:40am
The only Jack Ryan movie I really liked was "Hunt For Red October", at least partly because it was the only one where Hollywood didn't try to put it's leftist imprint on Clancy's conservative leaning works.
Raimi Moving Forward with WIZARD'S FIRST RULE - Jan 29, 2008 - 09:35am
Definitely not a Harry Potter ripoff, more like Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" but with major S&M tendencies. Goodkind is also heavily influenced by the Objectivist philosophy of Ayn Rand but it doesn't show much in the early works. I'm guessing they meant mini-series rather than series. And yes, if it to be at all true to the book it will have to be on a cable channel.
11 Movies Saved by Historical Inaccuracy - Jan 25, 2008 - 07:21am
Ponyboy's right, "Flying Women, Hidden Wires" never made any claim to be about actual historical events or figures.
Instead I would have thrown in yet another Mel movie, "Passion of the Christ", a movie about a figure that, propaganda aside, is even less known than Willy the Shake. Just because a Pope in his dotage said that it showed things the way they were, don't mean it's so especially since it was based on the Gospel of John, the gospel least connected to any sense of historicity or for that matter reality.
8 New Photos for PRINCE CASPIAN - Jan 22, 2008 - 06:24am
Except Susan who isn't a gullible twit and doesn't die although C.S. Lewis held out the hope that she might someday become a gullible twit.
Sorry, I really am a fan of the Narnia stories but never liked "The Final Battle", it's too full of the things that make Christianity unpalatable to me.
And the RAZZIE Contenders Are... - Jan 22, 2008 - 06:13am
I dunno, anything that features LiLo as a stripper can't be *all* bad. On the other hand not even a bunch of yummy Barely Legals could make Bratz palatable, not even the trailer (shudder).
Ashley Tisdale Fights Aliens from UPSTAIRS - Jan 12, 2008 - 07:45am
Sigh, the only thing that could save this movie would be if it was R rated and done entirely in the nude. Alas, not.
Lionsgate Buys NA Rights to CONAN Series - Jan 12, 2008 - 07:35am
The original Conan moviemight have mangled the continuity somewhat (making Thulsa Doom the main villain when he was actually a Kull villain) but respected the spirit of Howard's work. Conan the Destroyer was a travesty, especially that awful comedy relief rogue. The only scene that rang true was when they first meet Jones' warrior woman, otherwise it sucked.
Marlon Wayans Holds Ripcord in G.I JOE - Jan 07, 2008 - 08:32am
Nothing good ever came attached to a Wayans brother. TKay4Zone, Dungeouns and Dragons wasn't a comedy? Seemed like a joke to me, a bad one. The Sci-Fi Channel sequel was actually better.
Peter Berg Confirms DUNE Remake - Dec 25, 2007 - 10:40am
David Lynch's Dune may very well have been the worst movie ever made by the worst major director ever. The Sci-Fi miniseries redeemed Dune and was excellent. I agree that even if it has a good director it probably won't fit into a movie format.
Raimi Rides TO HELL And Back Again.. - Dec 20, 2007 - 01:54pm
Course Jackson is everyone's first pic for the Hobbit but Raimi is an excellent second pick, especially if Jackson is producing.
COMPASS Comes Up Short in Dismal Victory - Dec 10, 2007 - 12:50pm
First off, NotAFan, you rock! Second, maybe a lot of fans of the boooks didn't show or delayed showing because they heard that New Line had watered it down.
First Trailer for PRINCE CASPIAN - Dec 07, 2007 - 11:28am
Part of the confusion comes from the fact that "Narnia" refers both to the universe and a nation within that universe. Narnia the nation is inhabited by a bunch of non-human races but there are nations of humans surrounding it specifically Arkenland (good guys) Telemar (bad guys descended from pirates from our world) and Calormene (bad guys based on Muslims). The Pevensies didn't have offspring but after they dissapeared the Telemarines invaded and either wiped out, drove into hiding or enslaved the various nonhuman races. Caspian is the descendant of the Telamarine invaders who becomes a good guy and defender of the nonhumans. That's if I remember correctly, it's been a loooong time since I read the books. Any corrections will be appreciated.
THE GOLDEN COMPASS - Dec 07, 2007 - 11:05am
Ha! My own belief is that Moses smashed the real Commandments so he could make up his own.
Hecht Buys Rights for TOM SWIFT Series - Nov 27, 2007 - 12:00pm
No, monkeyfoot, I didn't know. Cool. Always loved Tom Swift when I was a kid. I grew up, not on the orginal series but the secondary one which was written durring the 60s.
Naomi Watts Cast in DA VINCI Prequel - Nov 23, 2007 - 11:48am
Wiseguy, the book wasn't very good either but "Angels & Demons" was very good. As far as Watts is concerned bad casting even though I like her generally. Bellucci would be good but I'd go for Angelina Jolie myself.
GOLDEN COMPASS Director Answers Questions - Nov 15, 2007 - 10:03am
Thing is that on issues like this compromise is pretty much doomed from the start because the people who are going to condemn and boycott the movie will hat it no matter what changes are put in simply because of the books. They will, as some already have say that it's a "stealth agenda".
Narcissa Malfoy Cast in HALF BLOOD PRINCE - Nov 14, 2007 - 09:23am
Hmmm, she seems a bit dowdy to play Narcissa. Maybe I'll change my mind when I actually see the movie.
Tommy Lee Jones Talks New TWO FACE - Nov 10, 2007 - 11:38am
I actually Liked "Batman Forever". I think Kilmer made a better Batman and definitely a better Bruce Wayne then either Clooney or whatsisname while Carrey rocked as the Riddler although he was obviously channeling the version from the 60's series. But yes, Two-Face was not one of Jones better roles and Williams would have done much better. As for the Kevin Costner take on Robin Hood, the less said the better.
Fans Pick BLACK ADAM for Johnson - Nov 03, 2007 - 03:04pm
And here I thought he was 2nd tier because the character is nothing but a cheesy Superman ripoff. SIlly me. ;>
Fans Pick BLACK ADAM for Johnson - Nov 02, 2007 - 11:16am
Yes! Perfect casting. I also approve of Warburton for Captain Marvel.
PS: Teth Adam was Egyptian, not Arabic. As for whether the old Egyptians were "black" or "white" that's been the subject of much controversy through the years. In the Victorian age and later their Africanism was, almost literally, whitewashed because the idea of a dark-skinned people who founded a great civilization was embarrassing to the colonialists. Nowadays some of the Afrocentrists go nearly as far in the opposite extreme in trying to prove that they, not Greeks and Romans were the "real" basis of Western civilization.
Were Egyptians "black"? If by black you mean Sub-Saharan Africans, no. Basically what they looked like was influenced by where along the Nile they came from. Around the delta they could pretty much be taken for typical Mediterraneans, further south they grew them darker with more sub-Saharan features until you got down to Nubia and Kush which were genuine "black" civilizations. The average Egyptian, going from paintings tended have reddish-brown skin with black straight hair and aquiline features, not unlike modern Asian Indians.
Whedon and Dushku Reunite For DOLLHOUSE - Nov 01, 2007 - 10:29am
I too will watch just about anything that has either Dushku or Whedon involved but I also fear the idiocy of Fox. Sounds like a darker, more twisted version of Alias.
HEROES: The Line - Nov 01, 2007 - 10:25am
I had West pegged as a future Magneto from episode 1. This episode had me thinking of the 80s movie "Heathers". I seriously expected him to pick up the Mean Girl and then drop her then tell Claire she "slipped out of my hands".
I think the Hiro storyline is actually picking up with Kensai's betrayal. Am betting that he is "Adam Monroe". After all, we have yet to learn his English name.
The Twins/Sylar storyline is hitting overdrive. Loved Sylar's speech to Alejandro.
All in all, the best episode this season.
Neil Gaiman's DEATH Adaptation Update - Oct 27, 2007 - 09:14am
i would have loved Fairuza in the role back then. Alas, again, now too old. And I agree Death steals the show whenever she shows up.
Let's see, dream cast for the Endless: Destiny: Alan Rickman
Death: Alexa Vega
Dream: Johnny Depp
Desire: Hmmm, this is a toughie as it has to be someone who could pass as both male and female ortwo people who look alot like each other. Natalie Portman for now
Despair: Rosie O'Donnell, she'd barely even need makeup
Destruction: Triple H
Delirium: Evanna Lynch, she's already shown she can play loopy well.
Shatner Talks STAR TREK Snub - Oct 27, 2007 - 09:09am
Well, he does have a TV series currently and there are hordes of fans who would go to see him despite the fact that he's openly disdainful of Trekkies, without whom he wouldn't even have a career.
Raimi Updates SPIDER-MAN 4 & SHADOW - Oct 17, 2007 - 09:46am
I so hope Raimi does justice to the Shadow. He would do better to go back to the pulp roots of the character and forget the radio show. The three biggest differences were that the pulp Shaodw didn't have "The power to cloud men's minds" just stealth capabilities that would turn a ninja green with envy. Also we never really learned just who the Shadow was because Lamont Cranston was just another alias as was Kent Allard (the name Cranston also went by). Also no girlfriend (well, okay, you can keep the girlfriend if she's played by someone sufficiently hot). Also the pulp Shadow was significantly more hard ass.
HEROES: The Kindness of Strangers - Oct 17, 2007 - 09:40am
Couple of theories: When West told claire (inexact quote) "I'd never do anything to hurt you." that immediately lued me in that he plans to do something that will probably hurt her. I'm guessing that he already knows that Noah Bennett is her father. Probably saw them together when he brought her to school the first time and that's why he shmoozed up to her in class. Am guessing that when he spied on her he was also spying on the rest of the house too.
The other theory is that Nathan is having the same problems vis a vis Scarred Nathan that Nikki had with Jessica. Am betting that Scarred Nathan is taking over his body and that he's who killed Mr. Nakamura and who attacked Mrs. Petrelli.
Possible Cast Choices For JUSTICE LEAGUE - Oct 16, 2007 - 01:24pm
If they were making a Teen Titans movie this might be a decent list but the only one I'd even consider for a Justice League movie would be Mary Elizabeth Winstead for Hawk Girl. But as has been noted these are just people who have auditioned, not people who have been chosen so relax. I'm sure we're not the only fans freaking and hopefully the studio will get the hint.
As for older actors, again, if they were casting for a Return of the Dark Knight movie (and if that ever happens I can die happy) it would be good but what they should be looking for is people from about 30 to early 40s, with maybe a dip into late 20s for Flash.
Pixar Developing JOHN CARTER OF MARS Trilogy - Oct 11, 2007 - 09:43am
If it's live action I vote Charisma Carpenter as Dejah Thoris. Or even if it isn't. If not her, then Moon Bloodgood. As for Barsoom being unrelated to the Mars we know, there was a fan theory that would solve that, namely that John Carter's Barsoom was an alternate dimension Mars.
Santa Takes on the Undead in LAST CHRISTMAS - Oct 11, 2007 - 09:38am
Bruce Campbell as Santa Claus? I just came in my pants.
I can only hopeand pray that they include Wierd Al Yankovic's "Christmas at Ground Zero" on the sound track.
Life for NARNIA After Dawn Treader? - Oct 11, 2007 - 09:32am
I just hope that the movies continue, as the first one did, to capture the books somewhat quirky take on the Christian mythos. My greatest fear is that the series will be taken over by the hate filled fundie death cultists. My second greatest fear is that it will become Hollywoodized. When the film rights were first options there was talk of bringing the setting from WWII England to the modern USA and getting rid of Aslans death and ressurection because it was "too Christian". Sorry but love him or hate him, cutting the Christian imagery from a C.S. Lewis book would be like filming a version of "Moby Dick" while cutting out all the whaling parts.
HEROES: Lizards - Oct 04, 2007 - 01:43pm
Muldfield, if you've watched many episodes then you would notice that Claire seems to have a serious resistance to pain. Things like having a rib sticking out of her body after a huge fall, or running through fire or, say chopping a toe off, things that would have most people curled up in a ball screaming are more the level of scraping one's knee to her.
Rose McGowan Confirmed For BARBARELLA? - Oct 03, 2007 - 11:30am
I honestly see Rose as more suited for the Evil Queen role. For Barbarella herself, maybe Alexis Bledel. She's certainly hot enough yet can also be innocent as well.
Update: Jessica Biel Out of WONDER WOMAN - Sep 29, 2007 - 09:14am
How about Eiza Dushku? Great body, good actress, can kick ass. Okay, she's short but camera work can fix that.
Tyrese Gibson For GREEN LANTERN in JLA? - Sep 29, 2007 - 09:08am
Personally, if I was going to pick a Green Lantern, it would be Guy Gardner. But they've settled on John Stewart, so we'll just have to deal. No particular preference for who plays him. As for Black Panther I would pick the guy with the impossiblly long name who played Mr. Eko in Lost that I just call Triple-A. He's a good actor, he's buff and he wouldn't have to fake an African accent.
The Rock as CAPTAIN MARVEL or BLACK ADAM? - Sep 24, 2007 - 10:23am
Black Adam without a doubt. Yes, Adam was originally a white man but that's because back when he was concieved you just didn't have black characters in comics. But he was originally an Egyptian and Johnson's complexion is perfect for that particular ethnicity.
As for Captain Marvel I still think Patrick Warburton would be perfect.
Trio Collide in Futuristic FRANKLYN - Sep 21, 2007 - 11:37am
I'm guessing that there are two parallel Londons, on our London, the other a futuristic, faith dominated one.
Giovanni Ribisi On Board AVATAR - Sep 21, 2007 - 11:35am
isgrimner, yes, there is a cartoon, on Nickelodeon, highly reccomend.
Waterworld suffered from a case of Hollywoodhypeism. Basically it was built up so big that it was bound to be a dissapointment. I had my problems with it but don't think it was as bad as most people seem to. Now The Postman..., that blew, especially if you read the book.
I've actually been witholding judgement on Avatar simply because I don't know enough about the plot and haven't seen any trailer or clips. But the fact that it's 3D bodes ill because that is invariably a gimmick used to make up for lack of good writing. Maybe Cameron can pull it off, but I have my doubts.
Giovanni Ribisi On Board AVATAR - Sep 21, 2007 - 09:31am
Yeah, because 3D movies are such surefire hits.
As for Titanic, it was saved by the hormones of teenage girls.
Robert Jordan Passes Away - Sep 18, 2007 - 01:01pm
I'm guessing that *if* the Saga That Doesn't End is indeed concluded it will be ny the choice of Jordan's estate. As for who it *should* be, Terry Goodkind, no. There are stylistic similarities (I remember thinking that Wizard's First Rule was Wheel of Time with S&M thrown in) but the two authors philosophies are just too different. George R.R. Martin comes to mind though.
Rush Talks PIRATES 4 Timing - Sep 17, 2007 - 04:58pm
I actualkly liked the series more with every movie. But I agree that it might be good to let it rest for a bit. As for Jack Sparrow being gay, methinks Coolector doth protest too much.
Kosinski Directing TRON Sequel - Sep 12, 2007 - 09:39am
Considering the advances in CGI over the past 25 years this could be awesome. Btw, I would kill for a Reboot movie.
WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPER HERO?: Finale - Sep 08, 2007 - 10:30am
Yes it was sheesy. It's supposed to be cheesy. In general the series reminded me of the 60s Batman TV series (yes, I'm that frikkin' old, deal with it.) In general, I liked this season, though not as much as the first because no characters stood out for me the way Monkey Woman, Creature or Major Victory did last year. Hygena was a less annoying version of Fat Momma but I felt she, not Parthenon, should have been dumped.
Anti-Religion Not in GOLDEN COMPASS - Aug 22, 2007 - 09:33am
Last time I checked almostunbiased (which admittedly was a long time ago) there were bibles all over the place in Catholic churches. In fact reading the Bible during boring sermons is what led me to stop being a Christian. But I digress.
I suspect more is being made of this than it deserves. First of all to me it looks like Kidman's statement came after the announcement as a justification, not the cause. Second I suspect that there will still be an anti-religion message simply because you can no more have this trilogy without it than you could have a movie of the Narnia series without the Christian imagery. It will more than likely be more subtle than in the book but there.
Warner Bros Options Darker WIZARD OF OZ Revision - Aug 22, 2007 - 09:15am
Tim Burton doing the Wizard of Oz. Now that would be cool. And if you read the book it's noticebly more dark than the movie was. The Tin Man doesn't chop up soldiers but he does chop up wolves that the Wicked Witch sends after them and the Scarecrow strangles crows also sent by Wicked. There are monsters called Kalidahs which are basically tigerheaded bears, after the Lion gets his courage he kills a giant spider etc.
Warner Bros Ready for LOGAN'S RUN - Aug 21, 2007 - 03:53pm
I'd like to see (but don't expect) them return to the idea of the orginal book. Two major differences: Logan's society is not an isolated bubble but the entire world.
There is a Sanctuary, in space, supported by an rebellious underground whose leader is: SPOILER WARNING!!!
Frances.
Minor difference: The cutoff age is 21, not 30.
I'm thinking Alexis Bledel for the female lead.
PS: Anyone remember the truly awful TV series? I loved how week after week they traveled through tracts of wilderness but their clothes, hair and makeup were always perfect. Ahhh, the 70s ;P
Remake in Store for FANTASTIC VOYAGE - Aug 16, 2007 - 09:11am
Hmm, let's see:
Godzilla: sucked
Independence Day: visually fun but scientifically and storywise atrocious
Day After Tomorrow: Politically correct, scientifically innacurate pile of bullcrap.
All in all, I'll pass.
Oh, if anyone wants a good dramitization of the effects of global warming, read Kim Stanley Robinson's "Forty Signs of Rain" and it's sequels. The last book leans way too far to the left but they're all still worth reading.
Millennium Picks Up CONAN - Aug 15, 2007 - 02:05pm
The first movie did do justice to the spirit if not the letter of the Conan story. Conan the Destroyer was, aside from the scene that introduced Grace Jones' character horrid, in particular I wanted to feed that thief into a wood chipper. I'd like to see a movie based on Howard's (emphais on *Howard's*) stories, maybe the one where he meets Belit, his first love.
