While talking to actress Selma Blair and Guillermo del Toro on the set of HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY, Superhero Hype had a chance to catch up with them on the possible adaptation of Neil Gaiman's DEATH: THE HIGH COST OF LIVING. Thespian Selma Blair has already indicated her excitement of the character but it seems she's not going to be playing the character from her interview with SHH, something you can read here.. We did get some more information from del Toro who is helping Gaiman out as a producer in the production of this adaptation.

"We talked about him directing as soon as possible," he responded, "but again, I hope that the 'Pan's Labyrinth' advantage is translated as being able to put those projects together, because the most exciting thing in the genre, any genre, is the new directors. Obviously, old farts like me continuing but young guys coming in constantly. I think finding a Neil Gaiman or a Juan Antonio Bayona has been a really interesting thing because it's the first movies they do. I think that if anyone knows that character it's him, and then if we need to create a support structure, we will. There is without a doubt no one more qualified to tell that story then Neil Gaiman in my mind. I think that Neil is a guy that thinks in terms of ideas and very concrete images. He's not an artist in the sense that he's not a draughtsman, but he is the creator of that universe, and I think if you can surround him with a really strong team…"

Surrond him with a really strong team? Sounds like someone that isn't ready to direct a feature. Otherwise you woldn't need people to surround you with a good team, you would know what yopu're doing. Not to mention that the adaptations of his work haven't translated to box office success.

Not necessarily, Wiseguy. I think any director, even Spielberg, needs to surround themselves with a good team. That doesn't necessarily mean Gaiman is ready to direct a feature, but it doesn't mean he'll suck. That's all I'm sayin'...

I, for one, don't think Blair could have worked for Death. I hate to say this, but she's too old. Death needs to be very young, barely more than a kid herself. It's part of the paradox of her character: she's a goth teen at the beginning of life, but she's also Death. Maybe Blair could have pulled it off ten years ago, but I think that ship has sailed.

Any director worth their salt wants to be "surrounded with a really strong team," wiseguy.

Yes, Gaiman's Death appears as a Gothchick late teens/early twenties. Maybe Alexa Vega?

Neil is one of those creative geniuses that rarely comes around. I have no clue how he will fare as a director, but if he approaches it in the same manner that he approaches his writing, he'll do just fine. I do think it's natural for del Toro to want him surrounded by a good team -- they're friends, the material is fantastic, and why wouldn't you want to do everything you can to help ensure that both succeed?
Death (what, with her floppy hat collection and goldfish) is one of the coolest characters ever created, and I've been keen to see her on the big screen since this movie was optioned way back in the '90s and Fairuza Balk's name was bandied about for the titular role.

i would have loved Fairuza in the role back then. Alas, again, now too old. And I agree Death steals the show whenever she shows up.

Let's see, dream cast for the Endless: Destiny: Alan Rickman
Death: Alexa Vega
Dream: Johnny Depp
Desire: Hmmm, this is a toughie as it has to be someone who could pass as both male and female ortwo people who look alot like each other. Natalie Portman for now
Despair: Rosie O'Donnell, she'd barely even need makeup
Destruction: Triple H
Delirium: Evanna Lynch, she's already shown she can play loopy well.

How about Eva Rachel Wood or whatever? That freaky, hot girl that's dating M.Manson now? I never read Death, but I love Gaiman, and I'm just using what I know of the synopsis to cast my pick.
