What They Say

The Review!
NANKAI KIOU NEORANGA is Studio Pierrot's TV animated series shown on WOWOW's non-scrambled (pay-per-free) timeslots "Anime Complex" and "Anime Complex 2". Each episode has about less than 15min so that each DVD has 4 episodes on it.
Strangely, video quality is good in _animated_ scenes with lots of actions , while it gets really bad in _still_ scenes without any action. I guess those _still_ scenes are encoded at very low bitrate to secure higher bitrate for _animated_ scenes.

This series describes how a person and/or people respond to the existence of (almost) mighty monster. SHIMABARA sisters (Minami(24), Ushio(15) and Yuuhi(12) ) are parentless girls: Minami has been working to grow up her sisters; Ushio has a too strong sense of justice; Yuuhi thinks the society has been too unfriendly for them.

One day, they are chosen to be the KINGs of NEORANGA, the living god of Balou Kingdom. How would you react to this opportunity ?

It's hard to categorize NANKAI KIOU NEORANGA into any existent anime genre. It features gigantic monsters, but they don't fight frequently. It features cute girls, but there are very few love interests. Watch it, to see which factor would attract you ...

#1 describes the arrival of NEORANGA to Tokyo, Japan, and JDF's intercept fighting against it. It reminds me of monster movies such as GAMERA and/or GAMERA 2 (written by ITOU Norio, SFX directed by HUGUCHI Shinji, features JDF's realistic combat against gigantic monsters).

#2 describes the reason why NEORANGA comes to Japan. Masaru, SHIMABARA sisters' long-lost brother, had become the king of Balou Kingdom, and passed away recently. NEORANGA didn't chose his son Joel as his new king, but it chose SHIMABARA sisters as its Kings. They refused to be the king, but in fact, they refused to accept Masaru's death ... they returned to Japan, but NEORANGA comes to Japan to serve its king.

#3-#4 describes the struggle of JDF against NEORANGA, along with SHIMABARA sisters' reactions to it. At last, Ushio accepts NEORANGA, i.e. Masaru's death. But how about Minami and Yuuhi ?
