NEON GENESIS EVANGELION anime fans are delirious with excitement over the news that a live-action feature film is now in development. The project is underway at ADV Films, well-known for its product line of anime and video offerings.
ADV has partnered with Gainax Network Systems, one of the anime's original production partners, as well as WETA Workshop Ltd., the special effects company responsible for the visual effects in Peter Jackson's
LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy of films.
NEON GENESIS EVANGELION was originally a 26 episode anime series that attained much success in Japan as well as with North American anime fans. The show is about a group of children who are the only ones who can pilot giant robot fighting machines called Evangelions. Fifteen years prior a massive asteroid impact resulted in half the world's population being wiped out. The survivors soon found that an alien invasion had begun, and their only line of defense was the technology developed by a secret agency known a NERV. Part of the show's success is the mysteries in the storyline, such as why only children born nine months after the asteroid impact can pilot Evangelions.
