From U-Jin, Japan's merry master of erotic comedy, comes yet another rambunctiously raunchy romp in the high-flying New Angel series!
Completely UNCUT! The Review!
After the first couple of extended length episodes, the show finishes out with three normal length episodes and brings the series to a satisfying conclusion.Audio:
As this series was never dubbed into English, all we have here is the basic Japanese stereo track thats more of a mono track than anything else. Theres little real directionality in this show, or in many shows like this, so its a fairly unimpressive mix but it does the source material right. Dialogue is nice and clear throughout and we had no issues with dropouts or distortions.Video:
Originally released in the mid 90s, the materials here provide a decent looking transfer, though the process of putting things to DVD cause some of the materials to really show their own rough edges. This tends to show again in more mid-range character shots and the lack of detail, now that were able to see it so clearly. This provides some fuzzy looking characters, especially if some minor cross coloration creeps in. Theres a bit of aliasing throughout, most noticeable during up and down panning sequences. Colors look good if a bit flat.Packaging:
Providing a shot of a character I dont believe was in the show, wearing a maid outfit and the pony tail hair while exposing her bountiful bosom as the money floats around her. Its a nice eye-catching piece, but since shes not in the show, its a bit of an odd choice. The back cover shows a few shots from the two episodes and has a basic summary of what to expect. The Japanese credits are nice and prominent, but whats really missing from here is a listing of which New Angel episodes are included. The insert provides a fresh image of a character that wasnt in any of the episodes putting on some lipstick.Menu:
The main menu has the closing song playing against a static image that has the character art from the front cover, including a much richer looking background. With only the episodes here and very little otherwise to do, the menu is pretty clean and very easy to navigate. Access times are nice and fast and things load quickly.Extras:

After the first two enjoyable episodes, though each was a bit longer than they should have been I think, the second volume brings three more episodes and works some of the things it teased about earlier into the main storyline.
The first episode is a decent standalone piece taking place during summer vacation where Kousuke and Shizuka are invited out to Akiras place. Since hes the braggish outgoing type who always has to show off, he has one of the newest maids there play tennis with them au natural, something that offends Shizuka but you can imagine the effect it has on Kousuke. The episode plays out amusingly as we start to learn whats been going on in the house of Akira, as it turns out the maid is actually the latest stepmother. He holds her in low regard since he thinks shes just another gold digger, but theres something more serious going on in that relationship that Akira cant understand, mostly since hes had so many stepmothers since his real mother died back when he was three years old.
This revelation to Kousuke from the very attractive stepmom brings him to try and help Akira with the problem and also to get Shizuka back to the property so that he can get his way with her as well. A master plan that will allow everything to be achieved, including a good time with the woman who rebuffs him the most. It plays out amusingly enough and theres the expected screw-ups, but its definitely one way to play the plot for laughs.
This episode gets followed-up by a fun if infuriating two-part storyline. As circumstances go, and theyre certainly not believable, Kousukes father wins a mini lottery and takes his wife and heads to Hawaii for a vacation. At the same time, Shizukas parents have to leave the country for a week, so they arrange it for her to stay at Kousukes since theyre such good friends. Of course, nobody tells Kousuke about this and Shizuka simply arrives on his doorstep, wet from the rain.
Kousuke looks at this as a fantastic way to finally have his way with Shizuka, but she makes it clear early on that shes not there for sex. But at the same time, shes warring with herself over it because she does love him. The two of them go back and forth a bit with Kousuke overdoing things but also ending up in bad shape due to his heightened sense of desire with her living there. She ends up with something of a change of heart closer to the end of the week when she learns how her future is about to be changed. Amusingly, everything becomes clear when three of Kousukes male friends come over and put everything into perspective for both of them.
New Angel does what the first collection did, and thats to provide some good fun sex and romance together without it being seen as mean or nasty. It falls under much the same look and feel as a lot of early to mid 90s hentai series before they got all glossy and went into the realm of the unknown. This is the kind of show that takes an otherwise perfectly normal series and just spices it up a bit, something that works very well.
New Angel 2 brings more heart to the series, particularly the two-part storyline as it builds up. Its good clean fun thats good for an introduction to hentai and good for newbie couples. While its not the best on the market, its not a series that you can go wrong with.
