20th Century Fox and director James Cameron have officially released their new trailer Avatar online. You can check it out in the video player below.  The trailer has already been attached to theatrical releases since last Friday but they decided to wait a week before letting it hit the net.

The boys over at ComingSoon has passed along a new 4-minute featurette for the film. Click on the link to check it out.

The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Peter Mensah, Laz Alonso, Wes Studi, Stephen Lang and Matt Gerald. Cameron wrote the screenplay and helmed.

Plot Concept: The story's hero is Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair. Bitter and disillusioned, he's still a warrior at heart. All Jake ever wanted was something worth fighting for, and he finds it in the place he least expected: on a distant world. Jake has been recruited to join an expedition to the moon Pandora, which corporate interests are strip-mining for a mineral worth $20 million per kilogram on Earth. To facilitate their work, the humans use a link system that projects a person's consciousness into a hybrid of humans and Pandora's indigenous humanoids, the Na'vi. This human-Na'vi hybrid – a fully living, breathing body that resembles the Na'vi but possesses the individual human's thoughts, feelings and personality – is known as an "avatar."

In his new avatar form, Jake can once again walk. His mission is to interact with and infiltrate the Na'vi with the hope of enlisting their help – or at least their acquiescence – in mining the ore. A beautiful Na'vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake's life, albeit reluctantly, because even in his avatar body, Jake represents to her the human encroachment on the Na'vi's unspoiled world.

As Jake's relationship with Neytiri deepens, along with his respect for the Na'vi, he faces the ultimate test as he leads an epic conflict that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.

Avatar will hit theaters December 18, 2009.

It really looks fantastic.

Yo the trailer looked EPIC son!

AVATAR spelled backwards is RATAVA which is the ancient word meaning "James Cameron just owned your soul"

Avatar: The Last Airbender had to drop the word Avatar from it's title because it was not deemed awesome enough to be associated in any form with AVATAR.

AVATAR is the only thing known to man that can in fact withstand a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

If AVATAR was a woman you would sleep with her.

If AVATAR was a man you would sleep with him.

If AVATAR was a dog you wouldn't sleep with it but it'd be your best friend and you would love it more than anything in the whole world.  Also, if you are a sick perverted basterd that is into bestiality you would sleep with it.

AVATAR is currently being used to cure depression.  In fact just the mention of the word AVATAR is known to bring a smile to a face.

HANSO....loved your list there..but have to correct you. NOTHING can withstand a Chuck Norris Roundhouse kick. AVATAR will be EPIC but even it would fall to Chucks mighty foot!

Saw the new trailer during SAW 6 (which was ok not horrible...), thetrailer a word AMAZING. As I was watching it it felt like i was having sex with the hottest chick on the planet and as i finished i reached in my pocket and found the cure for AIDS and cancer in my pocket! Thats the kind of experience the TRAILER brought to me. Cant image what the actually movie is going to do. I imagine it will be like finding Shangrala and dipping my feet into the lake of everlasting life!

Let the stoning begin after I say this, but does anybody else find this plot synopsis reminiscent of "Dances With Wolves"?  I don't care how pretty a movie looks, if it's got a tired message, can't say I'm all that interested...Wiseguy, I fully expect you to grind me into the ground for this, so do what you have to

hanso 10/29/2009 6:43:21 AM

Tired message? I take it you don't go to the movies anymore then cause that's all that's out there. People act like Dances With Wolves gets made every damn year.

There are native american similarites because Cameron wanted it that way, read the scriptment it clearly states he was influenced with Pocahontas and other native american stories and culture. Cameron didn't say he was writing a new concept never before seen, he said he was coming up with new technology which he did.

Also, I love when people use Dances with Wolves, like comparing Avatar to a Best Picture winner and a movie that made bank is a bad thing.    It's like saying back when Raiders of the Lost Ark came out, that Indiana Jones that looks like 30s serial pulp stuff, who cares that the guy from Star Wars and the guy from Jaws/3rd Encounters are involved, it's a tired message.  It's madness yo!! madness!!!

I know what you're saying Hanso, I just hate it when Cameron gets preachy with his movies...ever seen the Director's Cut of "The Abyss"?  Pure tripe.  Just afraid that any allegory he'll try to do will come off the same way.  If I wanted to hear about issues like the ones that could very well be big in "Avatar", I would just go to a Sting concert.

I think JC is a great storyteller and director. I think this movie will be good but I dont know that it will live up to the hype. I am glad he has come up with this whole world but there sure are a few Halo ripoffs. The movie will defanitly be amazing eye candy and I have no doubt the story will be told fantasticaly, but I think its going to pump itself up so much it will not live up to expectations.

hanso 10/29/2009 7:04:52 AM

I don't remember if did end up seeing the director's cut of The Abyss but if you are worried about a heavy handed message then that I can see.  That's actually one of the only two concerns I have going into this film although a message about going Green and saving your planet isn't a bad thing.  I think he'll keep himself in check.

My other concern is the ending, which sounded stupid and I want to see if he kept it and how he pulls it off.  I read it from the scriptment which is way old but from the EPIC trailer it looks like it may lead up to the original ending.

SpideyBD 10/29/2009 7:15:36 AM

OK one more thing guys for those of you who havent seen it the trailer is over at

It does look visually stunning and awesome.

Wiseguy 10/29/2009 7:30:20 AM

TK, no stoning necessary my man, you will learn the error of your ways soon enough and once you embrace AVATAR you'll be forgiven for AVATAR is merciful
