Veteran director Ridley Scott's new film composer of choice is Hans Zimmer's former music editor and assistant, Marc Streitenfeld. Universal Pictures has confirmed to Film Music Radio that Streitenfeld, who worked as a music editor on films such as MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II, THE LAST SAMURARI and BLACK HAWK DOWN, has been signed to compose the score for Scott's upcoming 1970s crime drama AMERICAN GANGSTER, starring Russell Crowe. Reportedly, Streitenfeld has also worked on Scott's recent film A GOOD YEAR, based on the Peter Mayles novel and also stars Russell Crowe.
Last year, Streitenfeld was the music supervisor on Ridley Scott's KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, where Harry Gregson-Williams' original score was complemented by several tracks from other film scores used on the temp track. Streitenfeld started out as an assistant to Hans Zimmer on scores like CRIMSON TIDE, BEYOND RANGOON and THE FAN. The collaboration with Ridley Scott marks the first composition assignment for Streitenfeld.
