New director on RESIDENT EVIL 2

The Hollywood Reporter mentions that second unit director Alexander Witt is going to get his chance calling all the shots on RESIDENT EVIL 2, scheduled to begin filming in August in Toronto, Canada. Milla Jovovich will reprise her role as Alice, the lone survivor from the first film (you better believe I'm not counting the guy who gets experimented on as a "survivor"), and the sequel will still pick up directly after the concluding events from the first RESIDENT picture.

The first RESIDENT EVIL writer/director, Paul W.S. Anderson, had been attached to direct the sequel, but now will instead slip into producer mode. RE2's script is still the one written by Anderson. Also producing will be Anderson's partner at Impact Pictures, Jeremy Bolt; Bernd Eichinger of Constantin Film; and Sam Hadida of Davis Films.

Reporter didn't mention if Eric Mabius is still slated to come back and play the part of the mutated Matt Addison, a.k.a. Nemesis.
