New Ending Shot For HALLOWEEN?

Filming for Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN wrapped up last month and yet we're getting news the past two days that contradict that status. Yesterday, it was announced that Sid "Captain Spaulding" Haig had been cast and will be in some additional scenes being shot this week as the cemetary caretaker where Judith Myers is buried. This bit of news cemented that all the former DEVILS REJECTS cast would be appearing in cameos for the film.

Today, another piece of interesting news hit the wires. According to breaking exclusive over at Bloody Disgusting, there was more filming then just adding Sid Haig into the movie. Here's what the fellow horror fans over at Bloody Disgusting had to say this morning;

"Some crazy new Intel came into B-D this morning as we've been informed that Rob Zombie has been hard at work filming new material for his remake of Halloween which is slated for release on August 31. Today ended seven straight days of grueling filming around the Los Angeles area, which included the addition of six, count 'em, six new death sequences! The film has been given a serious boost in violence, gore and bloodshed... but that's not the big news - we received word that an entire new finale has been shot. Details are mum on what is different, but we're told the new ending is quite gruesome!! Watch for the return of Michael Myers in classic fashion in only two months."

I wonder what spurned these reshoots, Maniacs. Was it Rob Zombie's decision or someone else's decision? Perhaps, someone will get a chance to ask him that question.

HALLOWEEN opens in theaters on August 31, 2007.

Will the ending be anything like the lawnmower scene at the end of Dead Alive? If it is, I'm already there. I'm already waiting at the theater. But seriously, if the movie is now going to be bloody and gory, that sounds like fun. But Black Sheep still isn't showing here yet, the one movie I've been waiting to see.

Take about wrecking a classic. I like it because it was a horror movie and not a gore movie. Now-a-days there is no horror, just pointless blood.

Gotta go shoot a new ending, eh? So much for me warming up to this idea. I now pronounce it crap.

When all else fails, just add more gore. Yeah, that'll make things better.

Some where off in the distance John Carpenter must be shaking his head, laughing.

Rob Zombie really doesn't know how to make a horror film.:D

I remember John Carpenter saying on the DVD of Halloween he didn't care how many sequels to Halloween were made. Since he wrote the theme music that all the movies use, he gets paid. Therefore, if they use Carpenter's theme music, he can both get paid and disown the movie at the same time.

Note: just how complicated is it to shoot an ending to Halloween? Everybody but one person lives and Michael is somehow stopped, the end. I have a feeling they will overthink the ending just like the remake to Planet of the Apes.

Rob Zombie said himself that he's giving this a movie a definitive ending and that he absolutely isn't going to do a sequel Then he went on to say that doesn't mean the studio won't do one without him. And then I think he said it might be hard because of how he ends it. I'm stoked."
At the time, I glossed over this comment. Now I'm really intrigued. MrJawbreakingEquilibrium, can you give more info on where you found that info on Zombie's comments on how he planned to end the film?

I believe he wrote that on his official myspace page, Captain Mathman.

I notice some negativity here...but it's not over with this latest news. We don't know why the reshoots are happening...

Rob Zombie also wrote this on his official site on May 10, 2007:

"I always knew that Halloween had die-hard fans, but it wasn’t until I began work on my new version of Halloween that I really begin to understand just how insanely deep the love of Michael Myers goes. I take working on this new version of Halloween very serious and I especially take the character of Michael Myers dead serious. I know the fans are worried I’ve change things about this iconic character, but I haven’t. I’ve added some things, but haven’t taken away any of the classic elements we all love. Come August 31, I think you are gonna be pretty fucking happy.

Anyways, this is where the idea of The Legion of Michael began. So many fans have Michael masks and dress as Michael for Halloween, I figured fuck it, let’s’ take it to a new level. Obviously cynics will treat it like some lame publicity thing, but that’s not the intention. I have tried my best to keep anything cheap or explotive away from Halloween. I want it to be created by the fans and for the fans who love this character.

Michael is back on the big screen, bigger and badder than ever! So let’s fucking live it up!” ---Rob Zombie

The reshoots may just be adding more scenes to the film to make it a little longer for all we know.

"Rob Zombie really doesn't know how to make a horror film.:D " said Angelus without any explanation what-so-ever...

hmmmpf I say.... care to elaborate on that statement?

Personally I enjoyed both House of 1000 corpses and Devils Rejects (although they were two entirely different genres)
there are few directors capable of understanding...let alone directing a remake to Halloween: Rodrigez, Tarantino, Zombie.

wait and see... oh yee of little faith.

mckracken-sure I'll be more specific.

When you view a Rob Zombie film are you getting the sense that this is truely a scary film,or some Bonnie and Clyde action film with very colorful characters with a 70's vibe layed over it? Because thats all I'm getting from his movies. Halloween I really don't know what to expect but already I'm seeing mistakes that annoy me. Micahel Myers doesn't have that slender build,it looks like another Leather face with a different look Myers mask. Don't get me started on the new Loomis character also. They should have also never revied it since noone can ever do the Donald Pleasance character any justice now.

Overall-Rob Zombie is an good film maker, but I don't view his films as anything close to horror. Anyone can add buckets of blood to a film, thats not really horror in my book. More like gore.
