New GREEN LANTERN Image Online

Plus: AVENGERS, THOR and SPIDER-MAN

By Rob M. Worley     December 30, 2010

There's a cool new Green Lantern image online. Plus: Ruffalo talks Avengers. Garfield talks about Spider-Man. A Thor cameo rumor resurfaces. It's your Comics2Film 10.12.30!

Ruffalo Says AVENGERS Is Like Airborne Sex With Breakfast Pastries

The Belfast Telegraph newspaper has a quick bit with actor Mark Ruffalo, who is set to play Bruce Banner, as well as his mo-cap/CGI alter ego the Incredible Hulk, in the upcoming Avengers movie.

Like all of the actors on the film, Ruffalo is in the dark about story details or his role in the picture.

"You’re taking a flying f**k at a rolling donut in these movies because you don’t exactly have a finished script," he told the Telegraph. "The only thing you have any understanding of is the people you’re going to work with."

Ruffalo also said that the prospect reuniting with his Zodiac co-star Robert Downey Jr, as well as his love for the Bill Bixby TV shows were incentives for taking the role.

Garfield talks SPIDER-MAN

Have you heard the news? Actor Andrew Garfield is set to play Spider-Man in Marc Webb's currently-filming, 3D franchise reboot for Sony. OK, that's common knowledge. But Garfield is making the rounds promoting movies like The Social Network and Never Let Me Go and all anybody wants to do is talk about Spider-Man.

The latest round of questioning comes from the BBC News, who have posted a video interview with the actor online.

In the interview Garfield once again expresses his respect for comics as a storytelling  medium:

"I feel like comic books are our Greek mythology, like a modern Greek mythology. I kind of equate the themes, and I think a lot of people would agree, the themes that Stan Lee was writing about in his comics are the same themes you'd find in Shakespeare or in Escalus or in these tragedies. I feel that all of the same human themes are in there, and it's just under a different kind of guise."

He also gives the usual bit about what a great opportunity the role is and what hard work it is as well. But come on, Andrew! Tell us something about the costume:

"I am [a fan of comics]. Massive. Spider-Man was the one for me since I was four years old. There's a picture, which I'm sure people will eventually see of me in the costume...I'm sure at some point that will be leaked."

Garfield also mentions that he has yet to look at the 3D footage that's been filmed thus far, in spite of the fact that Webb and his crew have 3D monitors (complete with shady glasses) with which they can instantly play back footage in full 3D.

Finally, he comments on filling a role that's previously been associated with Tobey Maguire.

"I've never met him. He sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend. He gave me his support and it meant a great deal of course because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat."

THOR Cameo Rumor Resurfaces

Way back (over a year ago) when we first heard that actor Jeremy Renner might play Hawkeye in the Marvel movies, it was tipped by the actor himself who said he might show up in the Thor movie first, and transition into Avengers in 2012.

Since then, the actor has been cast in the super-team film but what of his purported cameo?

Now, The Wrap is reporting that Renner is definitely in Thor, which hits theaters May 6th. The confirmation comes from someone who has seen an early cut of the movie. The source could not or would verify the extent or nature of the character's appearance in the film. Likely it's a small walk-on as we've seen in Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2. The scooper also confirms that we will not see Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the film.

New GREEN LANTERN Image Features Tomar Re

Fans who picked up a copy of Green Lantern at the comics shop this week got the first look at a clear image of Tomar Re as he appears in next summer's feature film based on the character. The photo comes with an editorial piece by DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.

The Daily Blam has posted the image online as well as copied Johns' complete comments from the magazine.

Here are some interesting bits from the man who made Green Lantern comics must reads over the past few years:

We've watched test after test supervised by digital effects supervisor Jim Berney based on the amazing design work by Grant and Ngila. Their passion for details is much like Tomar-Re's. Something I found extremely interesting was the mix of motion capture and straight up animation they used in creating the Green Lantern Corps. Some of the more humanoid Corps members like Tomar-Re and Kilowog started with motion capture, but most of their flying and movement beyond simple interaction was animated, some based on the movement of insects and animals and others created completely from scratch - giving them a unique, and alien, feel. It's this attention to detail - from the scales on Tomar-Re's skin to the way he turns when flies into the air - that will give the Green Lantern Corps more life than its ever seen.

All stuff in here that makes me giddy for all these movies. I'm really curious as to how the Spidey reboot will go. It became a day-one flick for me the minute Emma Stone was cast though.

Egad does GL look bad.  I want to like it but I just can't.

Wow, that Tomar-Re shot looks great.  Can't wait to see this.  Wasn't that shot of Tomar-Re a still from a brief shot in the trailer?

Jeremy Renner rocks... thats cool he's going to be apart of Thor and Avengers.

Green Lantern looks silly not feeling it.  I wish Reynolds did a Deadpool Movie 1st.

Mark Ruffalo is cool and a great replacement glad he's a fan of the old Bill Bixby Hulk Tv show series.

GL LOOKING GOOD! Haters hate, but I'll be at the theater!

Wiseguy 12/30/2010 9:08:51 AM

Hawkeye in Thor? It's cool with me but not exactly the cameo you'd expect in THOR. Beta Ray Bill or even Hercules seem more apt and would blow any comic book fan away

The only 2 things I'm not 100% behind in Green Lantern is the cgi bodysuit, silly IMO especially when Reynolds seems to live in the gym. And the other thing is that they appear to have molded Hal's personality to fit Reynolds instead of the other way around. But still can't freaking wait

Just cause I haven't said it lately, looking forward to the new Spidey also

Marvel has to keep all these actors in the dark as far as story goes, they can't keep their mouths shut

Wiseguy 12/30/2010 9:10:53 AM

Btw, a belated Merry Christmas  and a happy and prosperous New Year to all my maniac brethren

Tomar Re looks more fish-like than bird-like...

I'll see Green Lantern...but I'm thinkin I'll be too busy wondering why Deadpool is disguised as Hal Jordan...

LocoLobo73 12/30/2010 12:21:32 PM

Pysched about the Hawkeye cameo, cant wait to see what they have him wearing and if he is going to be more Ultimate or Avenger. Guns a blazing or bows a releasing either way I can't wait.

Tomar Re looks pretty cool, I can see what Wise is saying about the suits but, if you think about what a power ring would work like and the way it would cover.... LMAO come on its a movie based on a comic lol , But I think the suit looks to green and it should be more of an ever green, that would make the ring and his constructs stand out more.

Im not really feelin Ruffalo as Banner I think they should have gotten Ben Foster, he's a great actor and does manic very well, Ruffalo always looks like he is going to cry or needs a hug not to mention if we where doing a chick flick he would be perfect.
