Official Synopsis: From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team – the Guardians of the Galaxy.  An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe.  To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.  But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.  Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is presented by Marvel Studios.

Guardians of the Galaxy releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Rob Vaux, just posted this over on Facebook and I have to agree with him.

"At this point, Marvel is officially rubbing DC's noses in it. In order to top it, they're going to kick off Phase Three with someone in the old George Lucas Howard the Duck outfit, spraying seltzer water in Batman's face and cackling maniacally. For three straight hours".

jdell1964 2/20/2014 2:03:51 PM really starting to get excited about this!!

To all those who are saying that this film is going to be too silly, I would say that going all Dark Knight on this kind of material would be a huge mistake. I feel I can say that because I.......................AM A ROCKET RACCOON FAN!!!!!! Yeah! That's right! I said it!  DEAL WITH IT!

I loved Rocket (Rocky to his friends) when he was re-introduced into the Marvel U in The Incredible Hulk #271. It was much later when I discovered that the character was in part inspired by a Beatles song (really, look it up.) I bought every issue of his limited series.  I was transfixed while he fought in the Toy  War, protecting the "loonies" of Halfworld from the evil machinations of Judson Jakes (a mole)  with his girlfriend Lylla (an otter) and best friend Wal Russ (a walrus.........hmmmm, maybe another Beatles reference there) by his side.

Yeah, back when I was collecting I went through a phase where I was buying comics featuring talking animals as superheroes.  I even bought DC's Captain Carrot And His Amazing Zoo Crew (DON'T JUDGE ME!!!).

The point is  the source material is certainly lighthearted.   And there is a place between the Dark Knight and Adam West's silk panties. No harm in having a superhero film that makes you crack a smile.

Toran- I dont think anyone said there's anything wrong with being a Rocket Racoon fan. In fact i feel like that's what everyone is most excited to see in this film.

I want to see more though!

Never been a fan of these characters, but the more I see from this film, makes me wanna go back and read their whole history! And yeah, I love that Marvel is getting cocky now. They deserve it!

My theory, Avengers 3 will be

The Avengers Guardians of the Galaxy VS. Thanos

ElBaz13 2/20/2014 4:07:31 PM

I didn't even know there was a Mania facebook page.

Better check that out.

You know what, with modern CGI they could actually pull of Howard The Duck and what with Marvel being owned by Disney those lousy copyright problems will cease to exist...

Maybe you could have SHIELD turn up at a crime scene, they turn the corner into an alley and Howard is beating up a perp and it takes Agents Coulson, Ward AND May to separate them...

Maybe get Joe Pesci to voice him...

Maybe it will be AVENGERS: SECRET WARS?
