Walt Disney Pictures and the Disney Channel have unleashed a new featurette for John Carter, the rapidly approaching 3D adaptation of the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. Watch it in the video player below down below. And expect a new spot attached to the Super Bowl. The adventure stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church and Willem Dafoe. Director Andrew Stanton led from behind the camera, based on a screenplay he wrote with Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon.

Plot Concept: The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

John Carter arrives in 3D/2D/IMAX theaters March 9, 2012.

For someone from Virginia, this guy's got no southern accent.  None at all.  My father in law's from the south, and he's mentioned that the 'typical' Virginian accent isn't even an exaggeration!

As someone who can't recognize a Virginian accent from a Carolinan, this doesn't really matter to me.  I'd rather he go with no Southern accent than affect a really bad one.

I really hope this does well and, perhaps, sparks an interest in the original source material.  For too long, John Carter has been overshadowed by Tarzan and his ape-ish ways.

I am looking forward to this with huge anticipation, it's right there with Avengers as must see. I hope it makes a ton of money so it becomes a franchise but I am a bit nervous that it may not, fingers crossed.

Just hope it doesn't end-up like Prince of Persia. And I liked Prince of Persia.

It's just a shame they could keep the original title, but then again the first book is in the public domain so Disney couldn't trademark it...

Hence the Asylum version a few years back. Ironically it seems they CAN trademark a name as common as John Carter!

I had heard they changed the title from John Carter of Mars to just John Carter after the negative draw Mars Needs Moms had.  I didn't think about the trademark issue, even after I downloaded the entire series for free on my Kindle.

Well, I was looking forward to this movie until I saw this. Please don't tell me that it ends up being another Space Camp Disney dumbed down stinker
