JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON TWO EARTHS Clip and Interview

In case you missed it: last night we posted an action-packed new clip from 'Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths', along with a Q & A with producer Bruce Timm. Enjoy!

WATCHMEN Snags 7 + 1 Saturn Nominations

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films announced its nominations for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards. Although the comic-to-film entries are sparse this year Zack Snyder's 'Watchmen' picked up a respectable seven nods in the primary movie categories, and a bonus nomination in the DVD running.

That makes it tied for third place with 'Inglorious Basterds' (which we suppose is seen as a Fantasy movie?) which also got seven. The top draw was, of course, 'Avatar' with 10 noms, followed by 'Sherlock Holmes' (again...science fiction?) with eight nods.

'Watchmen' picked up nominations for "Best Fantasy Film", "Best Supporting Actress" (Malin Akerman), "Best Director" (Zack Snyder), "Best Writing" (Alex Tse, David Hayter), "Best Costume" (Michael Wilkinson), "Best Production Design" (Alex McDowell) and "Best Special Effects" (John DesJardin, Peter G. Travers, Joel Whist, Jessica Norman). It also scored a nod for "Best DVD Special Edition".

Also representing the C2Fs is 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' which got nominated for "Best Science Fiction Film" (seriously) and "Best DVD Special Edition".

'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' also gets a bid at "Best Science Fiction Film".

And Zack Snyder's '300' returns for a chance at the "Best DVD Special Edition" category.

Watch Mania's film section for a complete rundown of nominations.

Producer Gives BATTLE ANGEL Update

James Cameron's producing partner Jon Landau told MTV Splash Page that they are still actively developing the live-action movie version of  'Battle Angel: Alita'.

"We had a wonderful writer who came in and collaborated with Jim, Laeta Kalogridis, who worked on it; Laeta brought to our attention that there was much more to this world of Battle Angel than we ever knew," explained Landau. "We were familiar with the anime that had been produced, we were familiar with one of the main books. But she opened us up to the other nine books that exist, and how rich that world is."

Kalogridis' involvement apparently caused them to rethink the movie and move slower in finding the important themes of the story. "What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to fall in love? Are you human if you have a heart? Are you human if you have a mind? Or are you human if you just have a body? It’s a journey of self-discovery for a young girl," Landau said.

At any rate, an 'Avatar' sequel looks like it'll happen before the 'Battle Angel' movie.

Nelson says WATCHMEN Sequel Talk Just Rumor

DC Entertainment announced some major announcements yesterday about the power structure of the newly formed branch of Warner Bros. Jim Lee and Dan DiDio were named Co-Publishers of DC Comics. Geoff Johns now bears the title Chief Creative Office. John Rood is Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development, and Patrick Caldon is Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration.

All the players, including President Diane Nelson, made the press rounds yesterday to talk about the future of DCE. When Nelson stopped by MTV Splash Page they quizzed her about rumors that there would be some 'Watchmen' sequels and spin offs developed, at least in comics form.

"No, that's all rumor," Nelson told MTV. "I'm not sure where it came from. We'll be looking closely at our whole library and making sure we're looking for opportunities to mine every property where it makes sense, and with integrity, but that's just rumor."

She was also cagey about addressing the recent talk that Christopher Nolan would take on the task of rebooting 'Superman' for the big screen, responding to questions with, "wouldn't you like to know."

She did add that that one is also just a rumor, but announcements about film plans are coming soon.

No Thunderbolt for IRON MAN 2 or THOR?

The folks over at Collider.com got a chance to chat up actor William Hurt, who played General Thunderbolt Ross in 'The Incredible Hulk'. Hurt and actor Robert Downey Jr. shared a cool cameo at the tail end of that movie, marking the first crossover between two Marvel movies.

However, the actor said he does not appear in 'Iron Man 2' and, as far as he knows, will not have a cameo in the now-filming 'Thor' movie. However, he's certainly open to reprising the role for Marvel. "If they call me I’ll answer,” Hurt told Collider.

Many, including C2F, have speculated that an out-of-control Hulk would fit right in with Marvel's 'Avengers' movie. Indeed, that was the primary plot device in the first 'Avengers' comic, as well as in the updated 'Ultimates' comic. And plenty of 'Captain America' mythology was sprinkled into the 'Hulk' movie.

So it seems like a return for the character should be obvious, and if there's a movie with a berserk Hulk in it, it's got to have Thunderbolt in there too.

Hurt also talked about that famous scene with Downey, saying that it was completely improvised.

Bendis Takes Meetings on FIRE, SPIDER-MAN and Chic-Fil-A

Comics creator Brian Michael Bendis took a whirlwind tour of Hollywood yesterday and posted some interesting tweets from the road.

Most exciting to fans anticipating the direction of the new 'Spider-Man' reboot, Bendis had an interesting post that occurred around noon, west coast time.

"Just spent a very interesting morning at Sony with the entire Spidey movie team!! Very very cool stuff!!"

The news is not that surprising. Marvel writers have been actively consulting on the movie side for quite a while now, and director Marc Webb has said that he favor's Bendis' modern, clever, high-school oriented 'Ultimate Spider-Man' as the model for his movie. It is fun to see Bendis' involvement, to whatever degree that will be, confirmed.

Of course, Bendis has his own fish to fry, with his spy thriller 'Fire' recently seeing...um...heat at Universal. The studio just signed Zac Efron to star in the film. Bendis is writing the script.

On that one he tweeted: "'Fire' story meeting at universal was a blast. Chik-Fil-A then home!!"

He later added, "My exec at Universal is too tall. When he tries to hug me it's like Gandalf hugging Frodo," and finally ended his tour by revealing, "For those of u accusing me of using my Hollywood dealings as an excuse to go to Chik-Fil-A. To u I say: duh."

What do you think, Maniacs? Are you excited to see Bendis involved with the development of the new SPIDER-MAN franchise? Post your comments below...

Spiderman based on Bendis' ultimate version sounds good to me. Add that Sony actually consulted with him and my confidence for this is growing. Of course after Spidey 3 it doesn't take a whole lot to expect better

Kick Ass just looks awesome. That's gonna be one hell of a time watching that.

Battle Angel Alita is one of the few animes I like. I'm glad as hell Cameron is doing it, or hopefully will be doing it. That's going to be epic. But do it after AVATAR 2, then after BA Alita you can wrap up your AVATAR trilogy

Gen. Ross really doesn't need any appearances unless the Hulk is involved. Hopefully we'll see him in the Avengers flick

AVATAR should rule the Saturn awards, not that it matters, the box office has said all it needs to be said

Leave Watchmen alone, or not, who cares really.

Chick-fil-A in Hollywood? Now that's progress!

dakomon 2/19/2010 7:50:59 AM

Kick Ass is going to suck. Too much promotion, and the movies nerd heroes will become very annoying very fast. The trailers have washed off all the appeal of the what if superhero senarios. And none of them have any powers.

SgtTechCom 2/19/2010 8:20:30 AM

KickAss is gonna rock , i love the promotion not annoying one bit makes me want to see it even more.

Cant wait.......

isgrimner 2/19/2010 8:38:37 AM

I am going to check out Kick Ass, fo' sho'!

I like William Hurt and all and think he is a good actor, but he was a poor choice for General Ross.  I am one of the few who probably liked the first Hulk movie.   I think Sam Elliot was so much better cast in that role.  I guess when they did the remake they wanted to distance themselves from the first but I still think they should have kept Sam Elliot and Jennifer Connoly.  I did like Ed Norton better as Banner, but I didn't think Bana was bad either.

I'll keep an eye on Spidey.  I don't think a reboot is a bad idea for it.  However it can go quite wrong, and I don't want another origin story.  I think the general public knows enough about Spidey that they can just jump right in to it.

Too much promotion?  Where?  Because I see hardly any outside of this and a few other genre sites.  That's just stupid.  And what's wrong with promotion anyway?

After watchin an episode of Law and Order CI I definitely say Anton Yelchin has the looks and attitude for Peter Parker, check it out -

Kick-Ass looks like you cleaned my ass with your face.

I would rather punch a teenager in the balls than watch that movie. I'd rather watch you choking on your own blood at the bottom of a staircase than listen to you tell me how "awesome" you think that garbage is. But maybe the movie will do real good and all the theaters will catch on fire, and the problem will just deal with itself.

Jestlyr25 2/19/2010 10:37:25 AM

Looks like my birthday is going to Kick-Ass! About time something cool comes out that day instead of just me 31 years ago.

Wiseguy 2/19/2010 10:46:58 AM

Actually that's my foot up your ass or rather my leg cause that hole was so big I'm knee deep in your shit now. And that taste in your mouth is not your mama's cooking but rather my toes covered with your filth coming outta you mouth so keep licking it up

jfdavis 2/19/2010 10:49:07 AM

Yeah, Sam Elliott was better as Thunderbolt.  I wouldn't say Connoly was better than Tyler but she wasn't worse...I think it's the nature of reboots to have a completely clean slate.

Anyway, Thunderbolt realy doesn't need to appear again until Hulk 2.   I wouldn't be opposed to it but it's not necessary...
