Just two months ago, the media received word that New Line was softening its position against Peter Jackson in hopes of a possible HOBBIT movie somewhere in the near future. The hostility went from the studio head Robert Shaye saying "So the answer is he will never make any movie with New Line Cinema again while I'm still working for the company." (via SciFi.com) to "Notwithstanding our personal quarrels, I really respect and admire Peter and would love for him to be creatively involved in some way in The Hobbit.” (via LA Times)

Whether the two sides have even talked to one another since then, it appears that New Line is accepting a fine handed to them from a Federal Judge for the failures of handing over documents as requested, something Peter Jackson has said from the beginning causing the court case. The $125,000 fine could have been contested or sought a review which would have taken more time in this ongoing court battle. Instead, they're accepting the decision.

New Line's attorney Robert Schwartz wrote, "Mindful that the court's resources are valuable and limited, New Line will neither oppose that award nor seek review" of the order.

The trial which begins in January stems from Jackson's claims that New Line has not properly accounted for income for the first "Lord of the Rings" film, including DVD sales and foreign receipts, and denied his repeated requests to audit "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King". Peter Jackson will be wrapping his latest film Lovely Bones around the time the case takes place leaving his future clear for a possible HOBBIT if an agreement is reached between opposing sides or the court decides it for them.

Good deal...Watch, it's going to come out that they owe him like a hundred million or so and for those of you that think he is greedy for doing this, being owed 1 dollar or a million is still being owed money, no matter how you put it...

what they really need to do is the Scimillarian. Did I spell that right???

Haha, it's Silmarillion. Exactly mlaforcer, i don't get the jerkoffs who think Jackson is greedy for wanting more money. And this isn't an isolated case, just the most newsworthy one (hence the impending strike).

Kaybar...You know I don't think it is him wanting more money just wanting what is owed him, I'm sure that is what you meant but allot of people think he wants more money...That's how I see it anyways...could be wrong, I probably am, lol... Kill Wonder Woman and any chances of a movie...Ya

You lost me on the whole "Wonder Woman" bit, mlaforcer...What does that have to do with this... Agreed on Peter Jackson not being wrong for just wanting the truth. All he asked them to do is reveal the records. Even James Cameron called New Line's behavior "Strange..".

I'm sure if Jackson owed the studio money they would make sure they got every penny owed. After all I would want my employer to pay up if they owed me my bonus pay too.

Dark...I have been putting kill Wonder Woman at the end of most of my posts in hopes that word will spread and they don't make a WW movie...I guess I have been doing it lately because of all the WW talk going around with the JL movie, Hell I don't know it's probably stupid, lol, I know it's stupid but I can't stand the idea of Hollywood making a WW movie, ok it's off my chest now,lol...

Well, I`d say that this is a step in the right direction. They aren`t saying that they are hiding money, but at least agreeing that they deserve the fine for not releasing the records. Peter Jackson is doing exactly what anyone else would do, if they felt like they were legitimately short changed from a job they worked. If they owe him money, then pay him. If he finds out they don`t then I`m sure he`d respect that. He just wants to know the deal.

As afr as the money goes, if it's Pete's then they need to pay. If I owed you $200 and said i would pay you on Wednesday and when it rolled around I slipped you a $100 and a $50, you would eyeball me, and I'm certain ask for the other 50.... it's not about the quantity, it is about getting what you are owed.... As for the possibility of the Hobbit moving along, I am jacked... IMO the Hobbit is the best of the books because it feels grounded in a time where Middle earth is in its prime, where as LOTR is an end of era piece... I look most forward to the scene with the trolls in the forsest, and of course Smaug

Agreed! As bad as New Line's behavior was, I can't beleive all the posters especially on AICN who kept making Peter Jackson out to be such a bastard 'cause he made a legal claim through the proper courts. Esprecially after the ass Bob Shaye made of himself repeatedly. I guess those folks would just as soon not get paid for their jobs.
