New Line Axed By Time Warner

Looks like there will be no house that can be saved by Freddy, despite the horror icon getting a remake soon. The Associated Press is reporting that Time Warner is officially folding the banner under the wing of its Warner Bros. distributor and slashing 450 jobs from the previous skeleton crew that remained. Only 40 of the employees have been offered jobs at Warner Bros. and the press release says that they will not be displacing existing employees' duties at the studio.

"We are moving quickly to improve our business performance and financial returns," Time Warner Chief Executive Jeff Bewkes said in February.

It's a complete disgrace how this all went down. It's a shame that one of the biggest genre studios ever is going down in flames like this. While I am upset that Warner Bros would just shut down New Line this way, at the same time i acknowledge that New Line have no one to blame but themselves. Looking back, I think we all could see that something like this might happen when the fallout with Peter Jackson and the whole drama surrounding the Lord of the Rings happened. Who's going to want do business with a studio that gets a reputation for stiffing their business partners? Greed was their ultimate undoing...What a sad day for fans of genre movies....

Wow! Only 40 employees....that's sad.

Lots of good movies came out under New Line... It's a shame. I wonder how an impact this is going to make on the number of films being released per year... Damn you WB!

Hey wait a sec - I can't go back and edit my F-ups anymore! Damn you Mania! JK.

Yeah, this new system is even worse than the last. Aren't improvements actually supposed to be better. I'm not pleased with the new layout either, but I'm sure I'll get used to that, but the new entry is no where near as good as the last one. And that wasn't as good as Cinescape's.

What's up?

Since we're bitching about the layout here, it looks fairly haphazard and geared toward showing more of the ads than the Mania site content. Frankly, I don't like it.

Yeah they need to take a hint from what we all actually bitch about and ASK the consumers (us) for feedback. (like we always say the studios should) I actually surprised a thread isn't devoted to addressing the new "myspace" look of Mania.com

I do like the new comment box but no one needs to see my honkey ass man boy picture at each comment. And no offense to mla but when I see his I feel like he cant keep his eyes off me and gauley might get jealous.

So what does this mean for BLADE- hopefully Marvel studios can get Wesley the script he deserves for a fourth flick. What is even worse is what Mikey Nay is now able to do to Jason and Freddy. A Pigmare on on Pork Street and Pigday the 13th are just scripts away, we already got Pig night this weekend.

Is NKOTB going to remake Tougher than Leather?

I dont like the new layout either, i liked the small infor that was given with each news under the picture and how many comment were there. and about New line stuff well this is why i hate when companys but others.

Wow, it is Karma paying back New Line 7 fold. They made some amazing films, and for years tried their best to not pay those that helped them rake in all that csh for so long, it is NO surprise that Warner Brothers would LOVE to do this to their old genre rival.

New line made brave moves, but at the same time only saw green greed in front of them.

I just hope that Warners will get the ball rolling on THE HOBBIT and get that fixed.
