New Line Cinema is the new rights holder for Neil Gaiman's DEATH: THE HIGH COST OF LIVING comic book mini-series. To make it a little less wordy to say, the movie adaptation of the Vertigo series has been retitled DEATH'S DAY. Creator Neil Gaiman adapted his comic into screenplay form and is in discussions with New Line about directing the film himself.
As in the comic, DEATH'S DAY follows the chance encounter between a teen boy named Sexton and the personification of Death herself. Once every century Death takes on mortal form to spend a day on Earth living just as any other human. Initially depressed and harboring suicidal thoughts, Death befriends Sexton and the two spend a day together, learning to look at the world through a different set of eyes.
