New Line Possessed by THE RITE

New Line Cinema has taken possession rights of THE RITE, the true story of an American priest who studied at an exorcism school in Italy. The story is based on an upcoming non-fiction Doubleday book that will hit shelves in early 2009. The story is written by Rome-based journalist Matt Baglio, who was allowed to follow a young priest during months of training with a senior exorcist at a school affiliated with the Vatican.

Although the book is not finished and the screenplay won't be completed until after the strike, the theatrical version is expected to include scenes of exorcisms based on the priest's experiences.. Michael Petroni signed on to write the adapted screenplay before the writers strike. Fletcher & Parry Films will co-produce with Contrafilm.

Hmmmm,,,, could be interesting if done in a hybrid documentry style..... I always wonder if this shit is real, or if it is just people with severe psychological issues. If I believe I am possesed, I am posessed.

I don't know why they keep dipping back into this well. It has run dry. They will never make an exorcism movie that is as good or better than The Exorcist. Give it up...

I've never doubted that this bullshit is fake. Maybe people don't always fake it on purpose but they convince themselves that they're possessed or other people mistakenly assume certain medical conditions (like epilepsy) to be signs of being possessed.

Wiseguy--

The Catholic Church goes out of its way to debunk every possession claim that they can. However, there are a few modern cases that they can not explain away with a physical or psychological ailment.

Don't forget to bring crackers for the pea soup. when the chick is done spitting it up there maybe enough for leftovers.

Anyway, if the trailer looks good, i'll see it. I really liked how Exorcism of Emily Rose turned out.
