According to Bloody Disgusting, New Line Cinema has dismissed rumors of a Nightmare on Elm Street Prequel and a Freddy vs Jason sequel as untrue.

The site writes:

We checked in with some peeps at New Line Cinema who confirm everything floating around the web right now is untrue. Sure one day we might see Freddy return to the big screen, but right now the focus is mainly on rebooting Jason Voorhees with a remake of Friday the 13th. Hopefully one day something with eventually come into fruition.

i am not surprise, the last episode with freddy against jason was not very very good...It was even hard to beleive they think about a second one...But freedy return, for sure, it is just a question of time...

LOVE Nightmare and Friday....but seriously...FvsJ was a bit of a letdown. I want a sequel to redeem the last movie. Even though it was enjoyable. I wanted more. Felt like filler. exfan, where have ya been? You missed a hell of a day yesterday!!!

I'll admit that "Freddy vs. Jason" wasn't great, but I did think it was a little better than "Jason X". That movie was just about retarded to me. The ONLY reason I wanted to see another "Freddy vs. Jason" was because the rumors that were floating around out there were saying something about "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ashe" I would have LOVED to see Bruce Campbell and the chainsaw again. They could have totally worked it into the story too...the reason Freddy and Jason are able to keep coming back is because Ashe said the wrong words again when he put the Necronomicon back. GROOVY.

Foolish.

Freddy vs Jason was such a great film. It was fun, exciting, and was very respectful to the mythologies of BOTH franchises. It was a perfect crossover film. It also was a big hit at the box office. That film's success should have been a shot in the arm to BOTH series. New Line dropped the ball, and now they are wasting time with this lame-brain Friday remake.

Of course New Line is going to be dumb enough to remake one of their tent poles. These are the same people dumb enough to screw up the Hobbit.

Mark my words.... once this Friday the 13th remake comes out, Freddy will be next for a reboot.....

I'm curious to why people keep saying Freddy vs Jason was a let down??? It had a story that actually WORKED, respect for both killers, and had a huge final brawl with them fighting in both the dream world and reality. What else could someone have wanted? The only thing I would have done differently, was hire different lead actors. That blonde chick was hilariously bad.

I thought FvJ was great fun with a storyline that worked for both characters. The movie was made for the fans of the characters, and I thought it was cool of the studio to make the film. I don't really need another FvJ film, but I liked the idea of a prequel/reboot of Nightmare. If the reboot for Jason works, we'll probably get the Freddy origin movie. I just hope they don't dilute the remakes down to PG-13.

But will Robert Englund be willing to reprise the role in a few years, and if not, will fans accept someone else as Freddy? I'm not so sure...
