Lucy arrives in theaters July 25th, 2014.

I’ll admit that the releases in August rival that of May’s this summer. A lot of good stuff each and every weekend. Dropping out of the August race is Lucy, but this is a good thing. It seems as if Universal Studios has a lot of faith in both Luc Besson’s (The Fifth Element) and Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy, The studio announced over the weekend that the Sci-Fi picture is now going to be released a few weeks early. Lucy was originally intended to arrive one week after Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Now the film, co-starring Morgan Freeman, will arrive July 25th, 2014. This pits the film against Brett Ratner’s Hercules, The Sex Tape, and Step Up All In. Making it the most crowded week for releases this summer.

So place your bets Maniacs. Will it be ScarJo or the Rock as the box office champion on July 25th, 2014? Universal also released a new poster for the film as well (seen below).

Synopsis: Set in a futuristic world that is run by the mob, street gangs, drug addicts and corrupted cops, Lucy (Scarlett Johansson), a woman living in Taipei, Taiwan, 2069 AD, works as a drug mule for the mob. The drug she inadvertently takes goes into her system, changing her into a metahuman. She can absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can't feel pain and other discomforts.

Everytime some movie or television show or whatever makes the fallacious statement about people using only 10% (or whatever) of the human brain I sorta wince. Especially when the entire thing seems based on this premise. It's hard to look past it, even though I know I should just shrug it off and enjoy the story.

Scarlett Johansson teamed with Luc Besson should carry the weekend, but Dwayne Johnson is a pretty big draw, too. It'll be LUCY for the win, but it'll be close.

Geez her acting in this movie is so stiff it's a wonder she can even move her mouth to speak. Yuck! This is a nothing more than vehicle movie for Johansson. She could do better... And has.

Lucy will be no better than that forgettable/regrettable turkey with Taylor Lautner a few years back. This cinematic abortion is so typical of Hollywood- Take some attractive actor/actress/celebrity that some producers and studio slimes need to make fast buck on then rapidly release some piece-o-shit movie that rides on the recent success of a more popular film said performer was but a part of.

It rarely ever works.

I agree with Muenster; I suspect the scenes shown in the trailer are the best parts of the movie.

That's at least a good sign.  Usually a movie gets pushed back and I say Uh OH...Jack Ryan, the Monuments Men to name a couple of recents...  BTW not that I care, but for some odd reason I got banned from making comments at another movie website that AINT this one...I didn't think IT  was COOL as sometimes they have different NEWS than this site.  My only guess was that the Hefty site runner did not like that I made a truly mild mild comment that he never met a super hero movie he didn't like.  (it was not by any means nasty or did it have any vulgarity)...

Ok who has Step Up - All in! winning the box office this weekend?

Anyone?

VTGamehendge 5/27/2014 10:15:40 AM

I think Step Up will take it by a landslide!

Wiseguy 5/27/2014 11:29:16 AM

Can't feel pain or other discomforts? Then she may be down for anal???

Muenster 5/27/2014 3:19:46 PM

Hmmm... Poster looks a lot like another low budget vehicle film called; The Machine

What a small world too. Robo-Broad on the poster was a performer in Step Up 3D and appears on the show Arrow.

Guessing someone thought the world needed more Caity Lotz.

Speaking of more... Johansson is currently incubating a smaller version of herself.

Sans lube, Wiseguy.
