A new photo and interview for the sequel ALIENS VS. PREDATOR:REQUIEM has appeared online courtesy of Usa Today. The photo is a close-up look of the featured "Predalien", an Alien hybrid of the Predator warrior. The article also features some worthy quotes from the directors, Colin and Greg Strause. The Rated-R Fox film hits theaters everywhere on Christmas Day.

So the brothers plan to bring the new film back to its roots — namely, Ridley Scott's 1979 classic, Alien.

"That movie was dark. That movie used a lot of rain," Colin says. "And that movie was scary. We want it more like the classic early Alien and Predator movies we grew up on."

"There's a real history to these characters," says Colin, 31. "People grew up with these characters when it was a serious franchise. We want to make it just as serious and dark as the originals."

That means cutting back on computer-generated effects. In the first two Alien films, Scott and Cameron had six alien outfits. For this AVP, the brothers have just 12.

"You're not going to see 50 digital creatures running around," Greg says. "We want to bring the franchise back to basics.

"That's what made them so frightening in the first place."

I hope that also means a great screenplay, and not just costumes and rain.

That Bob Marley reference is pretty funny, ultrazilla2000!

Hmmm... hope they pull it off... not sure about hybrids though... that human/alien hybrid from ALIEN: Resurrection was AWFUL. Also, Not sure why it is set on Earth? Again? Other then for budgetary reasons. I think it detracts from the idea in the original ALIEN films where these scary "xenomorphs" are found way out in space far from help... "In space, no one can hear you scream." Now apparently aliens show up and fight it out every few years in the burbs. Give me space marines.

Interesting that they said "lots of rain" when they were talking about Ridley's original. I wasn't aware it rained in space. I thought it was just a place where no one could hear you scream.

This movie will bomb hard. The whole predalien dude is just a gimmick to get you to see a movie that has no plot, but lots of rain. There is no way these two hacks could make a movie on the level of Cameron and Scott. This is all talk. Trust me save your eight bucks and watch this on FX in two years at 1 am when you are bored and can't sleep because it seems to me that is about all this movie is worth.

I don't think it can be worse than AVP and the fact that it's rated R gives me hope that at least they're going in the right direction. Plus I thought the trailer looked really good. I'll be there, it's worth the $8 gamble vs the wait for cable or dvd.

Thanks, kwsupes. I'm so glad you obviously know it all. Just curious, when did you see the movie to know it's "no plot, but lots of rain"? Seriously, what's up with fanboys nowadays? The first AVP sucked. Hardcore. But why not give this one a chance? Why do you people have to bitch about EVERYTHING?

if they want basics, then forget about putting these two together and just make an Alien or a Predator movie, case closed.
