Four new screenshots have appeared online for the upcoming sequel X-Files: I Want To Believe, courtesy of a Russian website. The photos feature newcomers Amanda Peet and Xzibit as well as showing leading stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson getting up close and personal. Series mastermind Chris Carter is directing the sequel, based on a screenplay he penned alongside Frank Spotnitz.

Plot Summary: "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" is a stand-alone story in the tradition of some of the show's most acclaimed and beloved episodes, and takes the complicated relationship between Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) in unexpected directions. Mulder continues his unshakable quest for the truth, and Scully, the passionate, ferociously intelligent physician, remains inextricably tied to Mulder's pursuits.

X-Files: I Want To Believe will hit theaters July 25, 2008.

Call me a sap, but I always liked those two together.

They waited a little too long to do another movie. The first one was ten years ago. This sequel could've come out while the series was still on air. Or the sequel could've been right at the end of the series. But aside from that, I'm thinking of seeing the movie, because I liked the first one a lot.

""The X-Files: I Want to Believe" is a stand-alone story in the tradition of some of the show's most acclaimed and beloved episodes"

so in otherwords, it'll be good but it wont actually resolve anything?

This movie should do one of the following, it should open the door to many more X-files films or completely close the book on the series.

fans have been waiting for a sequel for ten years, its good that it doesnt really connect with the alien invasion arc, which got too convoluted for fans.

So are fans going to be treated to one stand alone X-Files storyline every ten years now?

We like them together because those characters are such polar opposites...it would be hard to belive any other 2 people play Mulder and Scully...let's be honest...it gave you wood to know that not only is she a hottie, but she's a smart hottie....

I'd like to hope beyond hope that this could be a launching point to bring the series back. It's not like any of them are doing all that much... Californication was awesome but is it even coming back?
