NEW Predator REBOOT

With Shane Black!

By Robert T. Trate     June 25, 2014
Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Yes, FOX is rebooting the Predator series. This time they have recruited the scribe of Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Iron Man 3. The Hollywood Reporter broke the exclusive story “Black will write the treatment for the project, then will hand over scripting duties to Fred Dekker, his university chum with whom he wrote 1987’s Monster Squad. Black will oversee the writing and is also attached to direct’.

The nice little kicker to this story is that Shane Black actually appeared in the original film as one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s team, Hawkins (see pic below). This will mark the fourth official sequel, not counting the Alien vs. Predator spin-offs.

Is the word reboot really necessary? Predators wasn’t that bad, though it seriously lacked an Arnold cameo. Sound off below Maniacs!

Predators was the best one since the original.  Just keep rolling on, no need for a reboot.

Predators was a complete rip-off of the original, down to the brute toting the minigun.  It was about as original as chicken soup.

That said, I don't think we need a reboot.  The series just needs to pick up where Predator 2 left off, and continue the narrative of the people of Earth secretly trying to figure out who this killer alien race is that keeps visiting our planet and hunting humans.  You can sprinkle in some token/cameo references to Weyland-Yutani just to tease fans a little, but focus on the Predators and the humans' search to understand them and to learn how to fend them off.

The original is a classic. Most of the sequels have been just okay at most IMHO. I liked Predators but I wish all the characters hadn't been one dimensional sterotypes. The inscrutable and silent sword wielding Japanese yakuza for example.

I think it could still continue on from what we have but I'm not opposed to a re-boot. Good characters, maybe a Predator re-design, and a different local. You could have it take place in Afghanistan this time. A great scenario would be U.S. and Taliban fighters realizing they are being killed and skinned by invisible creatures. They would team up to save themselves.

I agree with Cap. Why do they need to reboot it? Just call it another sequel damnit!

But I agree with dnbritt- Predators was pretty enjoyable to watch. it was a bit of a ripoff besides the fact that they're on an alien planet. But u gotta remember, this is what the Predators like to do. They like to hunt in jungles and shit. So there's really not much else to do with that scenario besides shoot guns and get killed.

Predator 2 was my favorite... When they showed the Alien skull in the Predator ship, I freaking lost it - awesome!

I just watched Predator 2 last night. Doesn't hold up as well as the first one. There is a part where the Predator is roaring on a building and is struck by lightning. Lots more cheese in that movie. Anyway, though I enjoyed Predators, it was nowhere near as good as the first one. I agree in just making a sequel with nods to the old ones. Maybe in this one some humans steal the ship and learn more about the Predator race etc. It does not need a reboot.

Maybe since Shane was apart of the Original he can do some justice .

In that case, just reboot Monster Squad!

the first and second mentions Weyland, I enjoyed Predators but I would rather see a sequel to a reboot.
