New RIDDICK Concept Art

The final stand of Riddick shown off by Vin Diesel.

Lead star Vin Diesel has once again updated his Facebook with a new message and a new concept art for Riddick, the upcoming third installment in his sci-fi action franchise. Titled "The Final Stand of Riddick," you can check it out right here. You can also see his previously revealed concept art here. Returning franchise writer/director David Twohy is leading at the helm in preparation of a 2012 release.

Here's what Diesel had to say in his latest update:

Concept art and Key frames allow a production to explore possibilities before actually committing to film. The road to the "R" rating, that so many of you were vocal about, has been a long one. The advantage however, (never empower the negatives) was that we were allowed a really extensive pre-production process. The art work is so good, the artists have really outdone themselves in illustrating this world at it's early stage.

When this film comes to the screen... know that you willed it into being!

Haha...

I got two meetings today that I have been prepping for... one with the Director and another one with the head of the studio to discuss casting and the 2012 release date. Like always, I appreciate having your voice present in these meetings.

Plot Concept: Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

So then, how to explain away the whole last movie? That is my one problem with what is going on with this movie, I actually really liked the last Riddick movie. Liked Pitch Black more, but Chronicles was good too in it's own way. I don't know why people down on it so much, but hey, to each thier own.

I want to know why he does is not in charge of the Necro's anymore. He was like Conan and killed his way to Kingship. Why is he not the leader anymore? They had better have a good explination for it otherwise this movie is going to start with one HUGE plot hole.

Axia, I know what you mean. I really enjoyed Chronicles. The movie just had too much ambition for its own good, and that sh*tty PG-13 rating sucked hard. It had such a beautiful look to it, and all the variations of worlds were a great touch

As for Riddick & the Necros, who knows? Maybe he tells them like the architect via matrix that anyone who wishes to go back to their home can go, and maybe it irks some loyal necros, and then there's some huge hellfight somewhere with Riddick left for dead.

In the synopsis, "his own kind" refers to the Necromongers who probably can't deal with his seflish loner syndrone, not to mention his homicidal tendencies.  They banish his a** from their civilization and back to the Riddick we know and love, alone, outcast, and hunted.  Simple transition.

Pitch Black was great (I just bought the directors cut for my collection).  I wasn't a fan of Chronicles because it took Pitch Blacks pretty straight-forward concept, bad situation meets really bad man, and tried to make it a cheap Stars Wars knockoff, a grand galactic psuedo-mystical epic with Riddick turned into some sort of lost warrior-prince.  Keep the bad man and leave the mysticism and galactic empitres out.

As for how to explain away the last movie Axia, I say don't bother.  Like Highlander 2, pretend it didn't exist and hope it goes away.

Hear, hear FerretJohn!  I found Chronicles amusing, but it definitely felt like it existed in a different universe from Pitch Black.  More like Pitch Black would be better in my opinion.
