There is nothing better than getting official Star Wars: Episode VII news from Lucasfilm! No rumors, no maybes, no Latino Review speculation. With that being said, we have two new cast members joining JJ Abrams’ production of Star Wars: Episode VII. One was long rumored to be joining the fray, the other is a Game of Thrones alum. Check out the press release below.

Press Release: Star Wars: Episode VII Adds Academy Award® Winner Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie
Lupita Nyong’o joins the recently announced cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. This year, her breakthrough performance in 12 Years a Slave earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Gwendoline Christie, currently starring in the hit television series Game of Thrones as Brienne of Tarth, has also been cast in the production. She can next be seen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.
“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII," says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the Saga Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.
Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

Billy Dee! Billy Dee! Billy Dee! Where's the intergalactic space pimp that uses Colt 45 as panty remover?

RobertTrate 6/2/2014 9:50:09 AM

I think Billy Dee non-involment is a red herring. He'll be in it.

I'm hoping JJ Abrams doesn't listen to the fan boys, like shoe horning in Lando. Orginally, I thought it was great that Boba Fett was going to be in prequels, until I watched the movie. Holy shit...bad idea. Make a great movie! Don't listen to fan boys. Thank god he didn't listen to them for Star Trek...otherwise Fulcan wouldn't have been destroyed and William Shatner would've been shoe horned into an incoherent story. JJ Abrams...lock yourself in a room and don't listen to anyone...just make your vision!

I bet one or both will play non-human alien. I say this that many of the new cast seem to be accounted for as relatives. Perhaps Nyong'o will be the rumored grandchild of Obi-Wan. Guess we'll find out.

I sure hope they find a way to incorporate Hayden Christensen as the spirit of Annakin Skywalker into all three movies!

Just kidding...even though that is absolutely nothing to kid about.

Gwendoline Christie has been cast as Tarth Vader?

VTGamehendge 6/2/2014 2:35:28 PM

What's happening with Game of Thrones anyway?  Is it off for a couple weeks?

6dra6on6 6/2/2014 6:00:58 PM

That was brilliant, ironman28!
