New This Week in Anime for 04/27/2010

Check out what's new on DVD for anime this week!

April has been a light month for releases and the last week of the month is no exception. Media Blasters has gone back to the basics with a pair of releases by bringing out Magic Knight Rayearth and Rurouni Kenshin. Rayearth is the 15th anniversary collection using the remastered footage from Japan and it looks light years better than their original releases back at the beginning of the decade. Sentai FIlmworks kicks off its latest series with the first Gintama collection, with hopes that it does well enough to pursue some of the later seasons beyond the first two full seasons that they have since the show is still ongoing. Nozomi slides in with a slightly later than planned second half to Rental Magica while Viz Media hauls out more of the tried and true Naruto releases with another collection of the original series.

Cover Art Title Runtime Price Studio Format
Magic Knight Rayearth Season 1 Remastered Set 500 mins $39.99 Media Blasters
Rurouni Kenshin Complete Series 2375 mins $159.99 Media Blasters
Rental Magica Part 2 Collection 400 mins $49.99 Nozomi Entertainment
Gintama Collection 01 325 mins $39.98 Sentai Filmworks
Naruto Uncut Season 02 Box Set N/A $39.97 Viz Media

Absolutely nothing interesting for me this week. Already have Magic Knight Rayearth on DVD, and everything else is a no go due to lack of dubs or just not something that interests me.

I'd seriously recommend picking up MKR again if you have the original discs. It's a huge difference.

It's definitely enticing, but I've been double dipping way too much lately as it is. And it's to the point where I just can't justify it anymore unless it's for something like a BluRay set (and even then, only a select few). To double dip on a DVD set, even with the huge difference, is something that I simply can't do anymore. Basically, I need to save my money for new releases, or shows that I completely missed out on in the past.

How can Rurouni Kenshin not interest you?  That is a great show that more people need to watch.  I can understand Naruto but RK is a great show!

I got Gintama! Now have to get the 2nd collection.

Already have Gin Tama, MKR, Kenshin.  Already watched Gin Tama Collection 1 too.  If there such a difference maybe I will pick up the new set.
