Lionsgate Films has released the latest trailer online for their upcoming horror film, THE EYE, courtesy of Myspace TV. This horror film, a remake of the 2002 Asian horror Jian Gui, stars Jessica Alba, Parker Posey, Alessandro Nivola, Tamlyn Tomita and Chloe Moretz. Directors David Moreau & Xavier Palud handled the adaptation based on a screenplay by Sebastian Gutierrez and Jo Jo Yuet-chun Hui.

Plot Summary: Sydney Wells (Jessica Alba) is an accomplished, independent, Los Angeles-based concert violinist. She is also blind, and has been so since a childhood tragedy. As our story opens, Sydney undergoes a double corneal transplant, a surgery she has waited her whole life to have, and her sight is restored. After the surgery, neural ophthalmologist Dr. Paul Faulkner (Alessandro Nivola) helps Sydney with the difficult adjustment, and with the support of her older sister Helen (Parker Posey), Sydney learns to see again.

But Sydney's happiness is short-lived as unexplainable shadowy and frightening images start to haunt her. Are they a passing aftermath of her surgery, Sydney's mind adjusting to sight, a product of her imagination, or something horrifyingly real? As Sydney's family and friends begin to doubt her sanity, Sydney is soon convinced that her anonymous eye donor has somehow opened the door to a terrifying world only she can now see.

THE EYE hits theaters February 1, 2008.

this actually looks pretty good. I like most of the movies distributed by Lionsgate

This looks very much like the Hong Kong version. I doubt they changed much. The ending will probably be the same.

This reminds me of a cross between the, "The Eyes of Laura Mars" and "Body Parts"... Both good movies at the time.
Interesting premise. Alba seems too pretty for the role though.

There was an episode of The Outer Limits from the mid-90s that dealt with a similar storyline. A college professor has surgery on his eyes to repair his sight and the technology included a drug that could only be manufactured in space. After he had the surgery he started seeing haunting visions of an angel. She followed him around and it involved some government investigation of an alien species. I'm sure this movie will be radically different but the premise is interesting. I don't think I would see this in theaters though.

Too pretty for the role? I think she is ugly. Seriously!

It looks good, but nothing yet to really draw me in. Does anyone know if this is going to be rated R or PG-13? Maybe a little gore will get me in. I hate most asian films I've seen and I think the American remakes are usually better anyway. That's part of the reason I haven't seen the original.

We're getting beauty judgements from a guy called Flathead? I KEED, I KEED! ;-)Personally, I think she's on the cute side of pretty... but beauty is in ... the EYE ... of the beholder. [hit me, please] But then, I think Angelina Jolie and Cameron Diaz are usually less than attractive, but it seems others tend to disagree. Oh well. As for the film, I have liked the trailers/premise and intend to see it barring horrid reviews.

Mmm. Love me some Jessica. I may have to wait for DVD or cable for this one, though. Don't think I could drag my wife to an Alba movie no matter how good it looked. Normally, I don't mind seeing a movie by myself, but I'd feel like too much of a perv in this case...

First, Alba is beautiful. But someone needs to start feeding her, she is getting wayyyy to skinny. She looks far better, imo, when she is filled out and healthy looking. While someone may not find her to be attractive to them, it is ridiculous to say she is not an attractive person overall.

Second, while I don't have a problem with remakes in general, I just don't think that most of the Asia to Hollywood films capture the feel of the originals. Doesn't always make them bad, I just wish people could appreciate the originals a little more.
