While Australia may be getting no cash from Justice League Mortal, the same can't be said for its other superhero film X-Men Origins: WolverineSHH reports that the origin tale of the clawed hero has brought in an estimated 60 million to Sydney as well as 1200 paid extras from the land down under. Also in the report, British actor Scott Adkins has grabbed the role of "Weapon 11" according to his fan website though it's still yet to be confirmed by the trades.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine will hit theaters May 1, 2009.

So it begs to be answered, what is the real issue with Australia not wanting JLA? To be honest I could care less because it is a movie that needs to take a long dirt nap until other projects are finished and I think you guys know which ones I mean plus give a new go around in the script department, find a decent cast and allocate enough money into the project and then you just might get my $8 at the ticket booth, but first it needs to die only to be reborn later...
p.s. looking forward to Wolverine and have no particular insight or thoughts other than that...Save me Jebus!

There are Mavel fans and there are DC fans... ;o)

I think it's stupid to film movies based in locations in the movie in real places not in the movie. But anything to save a buck I guess.

I love everything so far about Wolverine, except Liev's shape, but who the hell is Weapon 11. I don't remember him from Weapon X, but it has been a long time since I went through those books. Or is he something new for the movie.
See what Australia is missing by not giving that tax break for the JLA film. The tax break I read is only a 40% discount that by looking at Wolverine's numbers can easily be mostly made up by the influx of jobs and extra business. Anyway, I'd rather they brought it home to the good ol' USA.

If you guys follow that link to Adkins' website there is a 3 min. trailer for a film called The Tournament that looks like great fun. All action, but I don't see it slated for release here in the states.

larkcall are you making a point, or just stating a fact? Confused on that.
I'm looking forward to this, even though I think it's a little backwards, like putting the cart before the horse, with coming out with X-Men movies. But Marvel has redeemed itself with it's current movie releasing philosophy and maybe, please god, maybe after a few of these "origin" movies, enough years have gone by and then we'll all get the X-Men movie we want. That being said, I'm definitly looking forward to an avengers movie, even if it's 10 years from now.
DC on the other hand... All I can figure out is that they want to release the JLA movie to spark interest in the ancillary characters and use it as a test to see if putting out a Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Wonder Twins (oops I don't think that's being considered... who knows...), Wonder Woman, etc movies will be bankable or not. That's what I think. I'll bet you all that once the JLA movie comes out and is received by audiences, whether it be good or bad, we'll start hearing about those other projects going forward into full production.

I think maybe larkcall was implying that the Australian Film Commission (or whatever governing body decides the discounts for fimls) is loaded with Marvel fans and not DC fans.

I seem to recall a (wild) rumor a few months back that Jake & Maggie Gyllenhaal were slated to make a cameo in the JL movie as the Wonder Twins. I think that is the only thing at this point that would redeem this movie for me. I would pay my 8 bucks just to see that 3-second cameo.

fft5305, so you have a problem with a JLA film but if they add the two lamest characters ever created to be associated with the JL then that would redeem it for you. Are you a masochist or do you want the film to be a complete joke?

I remember a few years ago the Australian Prime Minister made a a statement about his country, something to the effect of "The is Austraila, we are founded upon Christian principals, if you don't like it get the hell out of my country. This is an English speaking country, if you think that is going to change, get the hell out of my country.".....while this man is my hero for saying this, this could also be why they won't let JLM film in Austraila, being that the characters are American. Just a theory. I am psyched for Wolverine, I can't wait to see Hugh Jackman back in action.

WISEGUY562 it seems that I'm always in agreement with you. LOL your response was funny.
I agree. fft5305 I hope that was a joke. Those twins were so lame. Everytime I watched the superfriends, as a child, I would hope somehow that they would be killed off, and that it would be bloody. I also hoped that the monkey would gain all of the superfriends powers and kick all their asses. ANY appearance of ANYTHING resembeling those twins will ruin it for me. Even if I hear that WB used drag-queens for ALL of the female super heroes, or all male super heroes were running around in fashionably colored banana-hammocks instead of their suits, or the entire plot can be written out with a #10 Sharpie Marker (the really fat ones) on a cocktail napkin, I'd still at least view it via DVD that I borrowed from a neighbor, network television, or through binoculars while spying on the hot chick from across the street. BUT if they put those Wonderless Twins in there I'm out.
As to the answer of my question relating to larkcall's "point": that's kind of silly. I can't see the people in control of this situation over in Australia making their decision based on what they're fans of. It's all about the $$$. Whose got it and who wants it.
Again, I'm agreeing with WISEGUY562, and want them to bring production of these movie back home. People here need jobs too!

Speaking of Jake Gyllenhal, I was over a IGN getting my game news info and they are saying that apparently Jake has been offered the role of the Prince for the Prince of Persia game.
Does that make any sense?
