New Vertigo Projects

By: Rob Allstetter
Date: Friday, August 09, 2002

DC Comics unveiled several Vertigo projects over the weekend at Comic-Con International, including a period piece with the Creeper and a Lady Constantine mini-series.

Following is a rundown:

* BEWARE THE CREEPER is a five-issue mini-series, written by Jason Hall with art by Cliff Chiang.

In stylish 1920's Paris, amidst the cultural clash between the aristocracy, religion, and the avant-garde art scene, the enigmatic creature of the night known only as the Creeper commits seemingly random acts of anarchy.

The mini-series is started for a spring start.

* IT'S A BIRD... is a 128-page graphic novel scheduled for release next year.

Written by Steven T. Seagle and painted by Teddy Kristiansen, It's a Bird... looks at the symbolic meaning of Man of Steel, as a writer hired to work on a Superman movie script experiences inner turmoil.

* ZATANNA: EVERYDAY MAGIC is the name of the 48-page one-shot written by Paul Dini, with art by Rick Mays and a cover by Brian Bolland.

The story looks at Zatanna's seemingly glamorous life as a performer in a strange and precarious world of magic.

* HELLBLAZER SPECIAL: LADY CONSTANTINE is a four-issue mini-series, starting in December.

The year is 1785, and young Johanna Constantine - not a lady yet, but a common con artist - has been pressed into service by the British Government to recover a mysterious iron box from a shipwreck in the Arctic Sea. She's agreed to the task - provided that she be granted a title. What she's about to find out is that the object is Pandora's Box - and that it holds incalculable power.

The mini-series is written by Andy Diggle, with art by Goran Sudzuka and covers by Phil Noto.

* November will see the publication of THE INVISIBLES: THE INVISIBLE KINGDOM - a 288-page trade paperback reprinting all 12 issues of the third volume of The Invisibles, with a new cover by Brian Bolland.

* The roster of artists for ENDLESS NIGHT, the hardcover written by Neil Gaiman, includes Moebius illustrating a tale of Destiny, Milo Manara on Desire, P.Craig Russell on Death, Gaetano Liberatore on Destruction, Barron Storey on Despair, Miguelanxo Pardo on Sandman, plus a cover by Dave McKean.
