New Viral Site for HELLBOY II?

It seems that Universal Pictures and director Guillermo del Toro may be picking up a few tips from Nolan's Bats sequel with their own Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Ryan Rotten is reporting that a hint to a new viral website may have been on that second trailer we passed along last week. Admittedly, the viral site doesn't have much going on in comparisons to the countless "Knight" sites but it may be worth bookmarking for the future.

You can watch the latest trailer again by clicking here.

Plot Summary: With a signature blend of action, humor and character-based spectacle, the saga of the world's toughest, kitten-loving hero from Hell continues to unfold in "Hellboy 2." Bigger muscle, badder weapons and more ungodly villains arrive in an epic vision of imagination from Oscar®-nominated director Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy").

After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman).

Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development--pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), aquatic empath Abe (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann--the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who's accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army will hit theaters July 11, 2008.

Let me just say that I hate most of these viral campaigns and don't really believe they're much help in actually getting people to see these films.
However these guys need to start flooding people's minds with stuff about this film. Afterall they're only going to have one week to make their mark before the Darkknight. That second weekend is only going to be people that weren't able to get in to see Batman or trrying to avoid crowds. It seems to me that with IM, Hulk and Bats this film is going to be overlooked just like the first one, even though it actually looks like fun and better than the first IMO.

Jarrod - You should post the link for "The Dark Knight" website that has the video of Rachel Dawes saying why she believes in Harvey Dent.
It's not much but I think it's cool they got Maggie to participate in the viral stuff and we get to see her in character.

Here's the link: http://assets.thegothamtimes.com/media/jlevine/public/0eYkc42oQyOQ.mov

I just watched Hellboy again on Sunday. I'm pumped for this movie.

Definitely pumped for this movie. Loved the first one. The pictures I've seen through AICN and yahoo make it look like a more epic scale, and the visual style is very Pans Labrynth. And Ron Perlman and Selma Blair are briiliant ant get enough of them. Look forward to similar humor and fun too.

New Mania Rule: No posting only to complain about Viral Campaigns. You must bring something else to the table.

I think they do help, but to varying degrees, depending on the viral campaign. It gets those who ARE interested in the sites to talk up the movie more to their friends, the fence sitters, persuading them to see it.

In this case, every little bit could help get people in the seats the first week, as Wiseguy so pointed out.

I like the viral campaigns, IF they lead to something (like photos or info) AND if they aren't pointless and obnoxious (like those stupid fuckiing Cloverfield ones) I think TDK Viral sites are swet, and they give us something Photos, Articles in the gotham times.
The viral sites for cloverfield made me want ot see that movie less the more I saw their sites, or news about fucking slusho. JJ Abrams sucks...there I said it. I haven't watched Lost, I suppose someday I'll start renting it on DVD but until then JJ Abrams Sucks to me.

BACK TO THE SUBJECT THIS MOVIE oh GOD THIS MOVIE, I LOVE ME SOME HELLBOY. The BRPD is GREAT Johann STRAUSS, JESUS I'm gonna explode!!!
Can't wait

Hanso and Company,

I can't wait for us to get our Properties section going soon because I have a feeling you guys will do it justice.

Case in point is your suggestions about all the Batman Viral stuff I'm missing out..

I'll be honest on that one. There are too many viral sites to manage for the Dark Knight alone and these New Property pages will give you guys the chance to frequently update ..say...a Batman section with every new update on every new Viral site you find.

I've know I've been getting some flack for not covering every single viral update that pops up for Batman like....say...SHH does...but after a point of time, it becomes too much for one person to watch over. I have a lot of subjects to cover here and other duties so I can't always dedicate it to chasing Viral campaigns for films.

That's exactly why we're getting together the Properties section to be managed by the people who know best in the world of Mania....You!

Jarrod -

I'll be looking foward to that Section you are talking about and I'm sure many other Maniacs will also.
I hear on you on being busy, I figured you guys would be busy working on all the stuff for the page and I know the Batman sites are a lot, I don't expect you guys to cover everything, cause frankly some of the sites aren't even worth covering. I just thought the game they had going on April 1st would've been nice if you guys had posted an article on it and of course the Rachel Dawes video I talk about on my previous post also would've been nice for the people that didn't get to see it to be able to here at Mania.
Anyway, keep up the good work and hopefully we can contribute to that Properties section you are talking about.

gauley, keep in mind that Abrams didn't direct Cloverfield, he produced it. So if your opinion is based on Cloverfield only maybe you need to give the guy a chance. Let's see what he does with StarTrek first before we start killing him.
As for these viral sites, just get a play station and you'll be better entertained.

Ok Wiseguy,
I'll give him a chance, but didn't he direct MI3?
It was ok, but they left a couple of lose ends, and somethings were not really explained properly. It was as if, "OK it's the end of the movie lets wrap it up in a nice package"

AND I tried to find out forever leading up to Cloverfield. The executive producer does WHAT? He contributes WHAT? I have some idea, but I don't know if I'm speculating. He has control of the $$$, which gives him say in how the story evolves, and how the entire creation of the movie is handled. It was always my impression that the executive producer, kinda "directs" all aspects of the movie. From script to photography in a collaborative effort with the director, writer, ect... But I was also under the impression that Exec Producer, has the final say.
Anyway I haven't seen anything (yet) from Abrams that deems him worthy of all of the hype he gets.

Jarrod thanks for working hard to keep our geekometers on overdrive. I think we all realize your workin' hard to keep upp with everything, just sometimes we are engulfed in the good ol' American custom of "We Want it NOW!" thanks again for your hard work.
You know what they say..."No good deed goes unpunished"
