New Viral Sites for DARK KNIGHT

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Thursday, March 27, 2008

Before Heath Ledger passed away in late January, the marketing blitz was on from Warner Bros. and the team of Christopher Nolan for their upcoming sequel The Dark Knight. Afterwards, the online viral marketing died down for a while but it's gearing up again with Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent character as the focus. Some new additions have been made in the online campaign the past day.

Plot Summary: Christian Bale once again embodies the man behind the mask in "The Dark Knight." The film reunites Bale with director Christopher Nolan and takes Batman across the world in his quest to fight a growing criminal threat. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman has been making headway against local crime...until a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Heath Ledger) unleashes a fresh reign of chaos across Gotham City. To stop this devious new menace--Batman's most personal and vicious enemy yet--he will have to use every high-tech weapon in his arsenal and confront everything he believes.

The Dark Knight will hit theaters July 18, 2008.

Enough with the viral sites already. When they first started popping up ie; the Joker reveal, they were interesting and kinda cool. Now they're just flat out annoying. Just give me the movie already!!!!!!!!

Hope the Joker stuff coming out in April is cool, cause that hunt they had last time was lame.

One interesting thing I saw in The Gotham Times was an ad for The Iceberg Lounge, which is a nod to The Penguin.

I like the Gotham Times site, fun to read, maybe has some hidden plot stuff from the movie. The Harvey Dent site is cool too just because it's a smart way to capitalize on this being an election year. Most viral marketing pisses me off, Cloverfield's Viral stuff was the worst. It actually made me want to see the movie LESS. I still haven't seen it, and I could download it for free, and I think I'd rather watch Dragon Wars.

Galaga, I like that you saw that.

Nolan has said that the Penguin is his least favorite villain...but there can be no doubt that Nolan and WB have adjusted to Ledger's death.

I wouldn't find it surprising in the least that the Penguin was in the third film or at least a reference to his character.

There can be no doubt that Nolan had to change things for the third film now that Ledger is gone.

Jarrod my friend don't start speculating. There is no reason to change the third when it probably is only just an idea. There can be plenty of doubt that nothing is changed.

Character drawings change all the time. I hate what happened to Heath but that does not mean anything for the story. There are plenty of actors who can pull Joker off. Maybe not as Heath but I consider it more disrespectful to him to write off Joker. He would want the show to go on.
