New VOYAGE is "ALIEN underwater"

Justin Haythe's script for the kidnap drama THE CLEARING attracted stellar talent like Robert Redford, Willem Dafoe, and Helen Mirren, so you'd expect him to know a good turn of dramatic phrase. Fox 2000 certainly expects such -- they've brought him on to crank up the characters in their revamp of Irwin Allen's old sf film (and later TV show), VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.

The plot has the high-tech sub on a deep-sea salvage mission, only to be invaded by a none-too-pleasant monster from the ocean floor.
Jon Jashni, who's producing VOYAGE with Kevin Burns, said "[W]e wanted to jumpstart Irwin's franchise not only with cutting-edge effects, but an intense story with a fantastic villain," Jashni said. "We were inspired by imagining what would happen if we put ALIEN underwater."

Jashni and Burns run Synthesis Entertainment, which is working with Sheila Allen (Irwin's widow) to bring the master disaster maker's film and TV properties back to the big and little screens. Besides VOYAGE, they're also working on THE TIME TUNNEL and LAND OF THE GIANTS.
